A Look at Mordred Figures - Fate

A look at the Mordred (Fate) figures

Mordred's story in the Nasuverse is interesting. She's the daughter (though she'd say "son") born from the incest of Artoria Pendragon's sperm and her sister, Morgana the Fae. But wait, Artoria's a woman, so how did she have sperm? The answer is magic. The answer is always magic. Artoria became a pseudo-male through Merlin's magic, meaning she/he could now produce sperm. But this pregnancy wasn't consensual. Artoria didn't want it to happen, but Morgana did. She secretly took King Arthur's sperm and inserted it into her ovary, giving birth to Mordred, a homunculus clone of Artoria. And that's just the story of her birth. Her whole life was pretty sad, and her death was just as tragic.

But that's all in the past! Mordred is now a Heroic Spirit, a Saber-class Servant with incredible power who can lift a Ford-150 over her head with one hand! At least, that's what we assume, based on what we've seen of Mordred's abilities in Fate/Apocrypha . She's a great anime character. And where there are great anime characters, there are also great collectible figures. Tokyo Otaku Mode has had quite a few versions of Mordred, the Saber of Red, in figure form, as many Fate fans love her. We'd like to introduce you to a few of them now!

Fate/Apocrypha: The Great Holy Grail War Red Saber 1/7 Scale Figure
First up, we're introducing a piece produced by Aniplex that's still available for order. It's already been released, and after several customer reviews, it still has a perfect 5-star rating. The paint job is stunning, and Aniplex managed to produce a rare red shade for Modred's outfit. The coloring alone makes this Mordred stand out from other Mordred figures in which she wears the same dress. Additionally, Mordred's dynamic pose almost puts her over the top as the most action-packed figure ever released on TOM. The only figure that beats her is the one we'll talk about next.

Mordred's facial expression is both fierce and eager for battle. Just as one would expect from Artoria Pendragon's offspring. While she may have the same face as Saber from the Fate/Stay Night story, her hair is a darker, more tousled blonde.

We love the way Mordred holds his enormous sword Clarent. It should be impossible for someone so small to wield a weapon of this size and weight with such ease. But heroic spirits like Mordred are known for defying the laws of physics. This is a true demonstration of Mordred's physical strength.

Fate/Apocrypha Red Saber (Mordred) 1/8 Scale Figure
Three sculptors—KAKU, Koudai Abe (Fenrir), Mitsuru Saito (Phat!)—worked together to bring to life what might be the deadliest depiction of Mordred any company has ever produced. Mordred's armor in this figure looks like Saber's... if Saber's armor was on steroids. It actually looks quite evil, to the point where you might mistake Mordred for a Berserker rather than Saber. We think this look is a result of her Morgane le Fay influence. The armor gives Mordred a violent, tough look, making him look like a man. Which is great, because that's what she's going for!

The armor isn't the only fantastic thing that catches our eye. Clarent lifted by Red Saber is also magnificent, illuminated with purple and blue paint. It's markedly different from the Clarent sword in the previous figure. That's because Clarent has transformed here into Clarent Blood Arthur: Rebellion Against My Beautiful Father. What a name. He's as terrifyingly powerful as he looks.

Fate/Apocrypha Red Saber -Mordred- 1/7 Scale Figure (Re-Run)
Underneath all that armor lies a gorgeous young woman, and sculptor Yukiusa proved it with this piece crafted by Aquamarine. Saber of Red is here dressed in her signature fatigues. Not all Servants are known for their laid-back looks, but Mordred is certainly one of the exceptions. Mordred may not like to be called a lady, but she can certainly exude a feminine aura with that white tube top and rough-cut denim shorts that are so short they're almost nonexistent. There are other Mordred figures in this outfit, sure, but they don't capture her with a cool, spicy look like this one. We love how she holds the jacket over her shoulder and looks back, with her other hand about to rest on her hip. And we're not the only ones who like it. All the reviews on this figure are positive. In fact, it was so good that it was reissued. But that reissue is also sold out. Maybe one day we'll get lucky and get a second reissue of this sexy Mordred figure!
