Akko (Atsuko Kagari) Little Witch Academia - Nendoroid

Although the Little Witch Academia franchise began as a short film released by Studio Trigger as part of the Young Animator Training Project in 2013, fans were quickly captivated by its magical setting and original characters. After the film and subsequent television series, fans were quick to express their desire for merchandise based on the series' fan-favorite characters. Of course, this is especially true for the series' protagonist, Atsuko Kagari , whose cheerful and enthusiastic personality made her a relatable character to move the plot forward. As such, Good Smile Company has continued to produce several waves of Nendoroid figures of the protagonist, the most recent being the "Nendoroid Little Witch Academia Atsuko "Akko" Kagari (Re-run)", which was released in December 2018.

This chibi-style figure of Atsuko wears the uniform of her school, Luna Nova Magical Academy. This uniform consists of a blue-purple dress with long, wide sleeves, a red sash that wraps loosely around her waist, a pair of matching knee-high boots with red straps, and a wide-brimmed witch's hat. This figure also comes with several additional parts and different points of articulation to allow for many different poses and other possibilities. These parts include her broom, her wand, the Shiny Rod, and a pair of bunny ears. Three different face plates also allow for changing her expression from smiling to surprised to fascinated. Atsuko's hat is also removable, giving its owner even more customization.

About Atsuko "Akko" Kagari: Background

As a child, Atsuko Kagari was greatly influenced by Shiny Chariot, who was a magician. While Shiny Chariot was well-received by many unfamiliar with magic, she had a notoriously poor reputation among those in the greater magical community. Despite this, Atsuko was influenced enough by Chariot to want to become a witch herself, despite having virtually no talent or knowledge of magic. Many students at Luna Nova view Atsuko as impulsive and reckless, yet cheerful and optimistic. That said, when Atsuko's antics don't put her and her friends in grave danger, they often end up getting her and her friends into trouble with the school, much to her dismay. Ultimately, however, her desire to be more like Shiny Chariot is enough for her to overcome the opinions of others and the obstacles in her path.

About Atsuko "Akko" Kagari: Abilities

Given her socialite background, Atsuko has to work much harder than other Luna Nova students to use magic properly. As such, she has struggled greatly with basic magical abilities like broomstick flying and transformation magic. That said, one of Atsuko's greatest strengths is that she recognizes her flaws and is determined enough to overcome them. Despite her lack of magical ability, Atsuko is able to wield the Shiny Rod, a powerful magical artifact that once belonged to Shiny Chariot. The rod often responds to Atsuko in moments of high emotion and allows her to transform into things like a bow or a broomstick.

Other important characters in Little Witch Academia

Among the large number of students, teachers, and other characters in Little Witch Academia, two of the most important to Atsuko would be her roommates and closest friends, Sucy Manbavaran and Lotte Jansson.

Sucy Manbavaran

Sucy Manbavaran is a young witch studying at Luna Nova and one of Atsuko's roommates. Even among other witches, Sucy is known for having particularly peculiar tastes and hobbies, many of which stem from her penchant for alchemy and mushrooms. Although she is often seen as listless, tired, and distant, Sucy does indeed care about her friends like Atsuko. That said, Sucy often forces her to be a guinea pig for her many experimental potions. Despite her peculiar habits, Sucy's skills in alchemy and potion-making are hard to beat, especially since Sucy herself is immune to poisons and toxins.

Lotte Jansson

Lotte Jansson is a witch-in-training from Finland and, like Sucy, is another of Atsuko's roommates. Many consider Lotte to be shy, fearful, and difficult to anger, but she is very diligent in her studies. When it comes to basic magical skills, Lotte is more than competent, though her specialty is her ability to communicate with spirits without the direct use of magic. Using a song from her hometown, Lotte can calm angry spirits, request information from them, or ask for their help with a number of different spells. Although she often keeps to herself, Lotte also often worries about Atsuko and, at times, believes that her burning desire to be more like Shiny Chariot could ultimately become her undoing.
