Attack on Titan: No Regrets (進撃の巨人リヴァイ外伝「悔いなき選択」 Shingeki no Kyojin Rivai Gaiden: Kui Naki Sentaku , lit. Attack on Titan: Levi Side Story: A Choice Without Regrets ) is a spin-off manga of the original Attack on Titan manga written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama . Attack on Titan: No Regrets was illustrated by Hikaru Suruga and written by Gun Snark. The story is based on the " A Choice Without Regrets " visual novel and it focuses on the origins of Levi Ackermann . In terms of chronology, the manga serves as a prequel to the main Attack on Titan story. The spin-off manga is subtitled "Birth of Levi."

Kodansha Comics published Attack on Titan: No Regrets in August 2014. That same month, a new OVA series based on the spin-off manga was also announced. The OVA adaptation consists of two episodes, bundled with the 15th and 16th volumes of the main series. The two episodes were released on December 9, 2014, and April 9, 2015, respectively. Like the main anime series, it was also produced by Studio Wit and directed by Tetsuro Araki .

The prologue chapter was not included in the original Japanese edition of the manga, but was published in a booklet released with a special edition of Volume 1. However, its English edition published by Kodansha USA included the prologue chapter.

As for the reception, Attack on Titan: No Regrets manga has printed over 1.5 million copies in Japan. The first volume of the manga reached 500,000 copies in April 2014, and 140,186 of these copies were sold in the first five days of its release. This volume was also ranked as the 57th best-selling manga volume in Japan in 2014. Similarly, the first volume of the English edition appeared on The New York Times Manga Bestseller List for 18 non-consecutive weeks, while the second volume remained on the list for 12 weeks.

Additionally, Aria magazine announced on Kodansha's official website that it would be reprinting the prologue chapter of Attack on Titan: No Regrets manga in the December issue on October 28. The reason for the reprint was that the November issue was sold out due to high demand for the prologue chapter.

Attack on Titan: No Regrets Summary

The story of Attack on Titan: No Regrets centers on Erwin Smith , who is advancing in his military career at the Survey Corps. He is ruthless and unemotional, and his mind is always full of strategies and intrigues. However, there is another world that coexists with his own, where humans are born and die surrounded by the waste that the capital throws away: the subway. Here, the criminal Levi tries to survive daily life thanks to his extraordinary abilities. When Erwin and Levi cross paths, they must prove that they are stronger.

Visual novel

On September 18, 2013, and December 18, 2013, respectively, two visual novels written by Gun Snark (砂阿久雁, Sunaaku Gan ) of Nitroplus, titled Kui Naki Sentaku [Yokoku] (悔いなき選択[予告], "A Choice With No Regrets: Preview") and Kui Naki's Sentaku (悔いなき選択, "A Choice With No Regrets") were released alongside the third and sixth Blu-ray sets of the Attack on Titan anime. The character design was by Namaniku ATK, also of Nitroplus.

Anime adaptation

In the 14th volume of the Attack on Titan manga, a two-episode OVA anime adaptation was announced. They were produced by the same team that produced the Attack on Titan television anime. The episodes were directed by Tetsuro Araki, written by Yasuko Kobayashi, and animated byStudio Wit . Additionally, the characters were designed by Kyoji Asano. The insert song is " So It's Always the Same " ("Just as Always"), by Hiroyuki Sawano. The first episode of this OVA was included in the 15th volume of Attack on Titan on December 9, 2014, and the second was included with the 16th volume on April 9, 2015. Kodansha Comics announced on January 15, 2016, that they would be publishing these two episodes with the special editions of the 18th and 19th volumes of the Attack on Titan manga, on April 5, 2016, and August 2, 2016, respectively.
