Summary

In a parallel universe where humanity must live behind towering steel walls to protect itself from gigantic humanoid creatures known as Titans. The safety of these walls rests in the hands of a few brave soldiers. Peace within the community is abruptly interrupted by the destruction of a Colossal
Titan
who appeared and pierced Wall Maria. Eren Jaeger , a young boy who lost his mother that day, decided to join the army in order to take revenge on the Titans.

Five years later, the Colossal Titan reappears and destroys Wall Rose. A fierce battle takes place during the Titan invasion in the Trost District, during which it is discovered that Eren has the ability to transform into a Titan. Eren decides to use his powers for the good of humanity. He successfully seals the hole the Titans had made in Wall Rose and is victorious against the Titans.

While still in training with the 104th Training Corps, Eren fought alongside fellow soldier Annie Leonhart and was defeated by her. Initially reluctant, he eventually accepted Annie's teachings. She taught him various fighting techniques that would help him overpower an opponent with minimal force and showed him how to utilize his strength and power.

After Eren revealed his Titan form, he was imprisoned for fear that he would attack his fellow soldiers and civilians. He was sentenced to a trial to determine whether he should remain with humanity or be released beyond the walls with the Titans. Military Commander-in-Chief Dhalis Zacharis, who led the trial, stated that it would be impossible to conceal Eren's existence and therefore he should make a public statement to avoid internal conflict. Nile Dawk of the Military Police Brigade , who opposed Eren's continued presence within the walls, proposed Eren's immediate execution out of fear of his existence. Erwin advocated making Eren an official member of the Survey Corps in order to use his powers to reclaim Wall Maria. A verdict was reached, and Eren became a necessary ally to both the military and humanity.

Eren dedicated himself to intense training to control his new Titan powers. Hange Zoë also used her intellect to help him as much as she could. However, Eren failed to control his powers.

During an expedition, the Female Titan appeared and attacked military soldiers who were exploring a new territory. Armin realized that the Titan was not like other Titans, it possessed intelligence. He concluded that it could also be a Shapeshifting Titan like Eren.

The soldiers attempted to save Eren from being kidnapped and devoured by the Female Titan. During their confrontation, they realized that the Female Titan was a comrade, Annie Leonheart. After being trapped by the rest of the team, she encased herself in a crystal-like shield for protection. Levi appeared and shattered her shield. She was then taken back to headquarters and guarded by the Survey Corps to prevent any potential attacks.

While Annie remained in hiding, a group of former soldiers from the 104th Training Corps ventured without permission into unfamiliar and dangerous territory.

Hange, Mobilt, and other members of the Survey Corps arrived to save them from being torn to pieces by a Titan. During the battle, the Titan had torn a hole through Wall Sina and into the area where Annie was being held, revealing her to the others who were unaware that the Survey Corps was keeping Annie and Eren in their Titan forms. They watched in horror and fear.

Once the hole was sealed, Hange questioned Nick about the Survey Corps keeping a Titan inside the Wall, to which Nick refused to answer. Angered by Nick's attitude, Hange grabbed Nick by the collar and threatened to push him out of the Wall. She asked him again about the Titan, as well as other suspicions she had. Nick challenged her to a duel. He offered that if he lost, he would tell her everything he knew, and if he won, they would never speak of what happened. She lost the duel and honored the terms of the duel.
