About Nagatsuki Tappei

Tappei and Re:Zero
Tappei began writing " Re:Zero " because he wanted to create Emilia . He began writing the series online, which gained enough popularity to transition into a printed light novel. Re:Zero continued to gain popularity to the point where he was able to turn it into an anime. Tappei explains that while he was very happy with the success and popularity of Re:Zero at that point, he also worried that it was too good to be true and that the bottom could fall out at any moment.
Even though he was creating the characters and story for Re:Zero, Tappei had a hard time visualizing it in his mind, so while watching it as an anime, he encountered it with the audience with thoughts like, "Ah, is that what it was like?"
When he was once asked who his favorite Re:Zero character is, he replied, "There's no doubt it's Emilia. Emilia is in first place, everyone else is in second place. It's unwavering. After all, Re:Zero started because I wanted to write about Emilia."
Ever since he created Subaru (the main character of Re:Zero ) and his story, he has felt a strong connection to him and his death. He states that the idea of being eaten by animals is very scary, so when Subaru died this way, it left an impression on him that has stayed with him.
Tappei credits three light novels for his debut as a writer: Ragnarök (which gave him the opportunity to start writing light novels), Dances with Dragons , and Chronicle of the End (for his writing style). His all-time favorite manga is Dai None's Great Adventure.
He visited Taiwan twice. He was a little worried the first time he went because he had never been there before, but he received a warm welcome from his fans, which helped calm him down. He was much more excited on his second visit.
During her second stay in Taiwan, a reader and fan of her work drew a picture of her and Tappei together. Tappei was so flattered that he posed for a photo with her and her drawing. The two of them reproduced the poses she had drawn in the drawing for the drawing. He then signed the drawing for her and posed for more photos.
When writing, Tappei likes his protagonist to "overcome obstacles and emerge victorious." For example, by doing this, Subaru will grow up and become more popular.
One of Tappei's favorite dishes is Taiwanese beef noodle soup, but he doesn't like sticky tofu because of its strong smell.
While writing Re:Zero , Tappei and Re:Zero Producer Iketomo often worked with them to improve the story. When he first started writing Re:Zero , he did it mainly for fun. Iketomo helped him transform his writing into something that appealed more to readers. For this reason, Iketomo's suggestions are very important to Tappei.
For Tappei, transitioning from an online novel to a literary novel is a real challenge, as he must limit the word count and ensure that the reader can understand the important details. On the web, he can write as much as he wants. For example, he can go into detail about the challenge Subaru is currently facing or what he's thinking at a given moment.
Tappei said that Yui Horie 's performance as Felix , his "sense of joking" is what remains most memorable to him, but Yusuke Kobayashi (Subaru's voice actor in Re:Zero ) is the most important. Without his voice, we would not be able to fully understand Subaru's character and nature.
He usually leaves the anime artists alone, trusting them to do their job, but he checks in every now and then to make sure the novels and anime are still in sync.
Tappei says that if Subaru ever feels overcome with grief or despair, it will be time to kill him. If he doesn't kill him then (since he may be mentally/physically broken enough to rise again), it will be too late to do so.
Tappei drew inspiration from the anime for the name of Subaru's dragon, Patrasche, and for his phone's ringtone , A Dog of Flanders , from 1975.
In 2016, Tappei worked at a butcher shop, preparing and processing meat, and occasionally working as a cashier. At the time, since he didn't get off work until 6:00 PM and still had dinner to eat, he usually didn't start writing until 9:30 PM and went to bed around 2:00 AM. He often planned the direction Re:Zero's story would take while processing meat. At the time, he had ambitions of becoming a full-time writer, but wanted to continue working at his butcher shop until that time so he could continue to come up with ideas.
