Beatrice (also called Betty by Subaru ) is an artificial spirit created by Echidna . Approximately 400 years ago, she resembled a small girl with long, cream-colored hair that was shaped into a double drill on either side of her head. She wears a long dress with a small, shawl-like cape around her shoulders, all in a dark pink color with white accents. Her clothes and hair are adorned with pink ribbons, and she has a small crown attached to her head that is tilted slightly to the right. Due to her nature as a spirit, her appearance cannot permanently change. Beatrice has a particularly gruff personality and chooses not to get close to most people, but she is quite sweet if you get on her good side. She also has a distinct way of speaking and adds kashira (which roughly translates to "I guess") to the end of some of her sentences.
History
Beatrice was created approximately 400 years before the story by Echidna and served as an assistant for the witch's experiments such as the Sanctuary Barrier. However, she does not have complete knowledge of Echidna's actions, as even she was unaware of Lewes-Meyer being sealed in a crystal. At one point, Beatrice was tasked with guarding the library and vaguely awaiting this person , which she did diligently.
Time passed with Beatrice as the library's devoted protector until Subaru showed up at the Mathers mansion. She used her immense talent and knowledge to help him heal the fatal injuries he had sustained. Upon awakening, Subaru immediately saw through her door-walking ability and stumbled into her library. From then on, he constantly turned to her for advice, particularly on curses and mana draining. Using this knowledge, he cast a death curse on himself, which was later lifted by Beatrice. After his ordeal in the woods, Beatrice once again healed his injuries but told Subaru that the new layers of curses on him were impossible to remove, prompting Rem, Ram, and Subaru to enter the woods once more.
Once this heartbreaking event was over, she returned to her duties at the library. Later, Subaru turned to her again for help when he attempted to unravel the mysteries of the Witch of Greed's Graveyard . During an attack on the Mathers mansion, her library began to decay, and Subaru managed to convince her to accept a contract with him. From then on, Beatrice would accompany Subaru everywhere and serve as critical firepower and a source of wisdom in the events of Priestelle and the Pleiades Watchtower .
Relationships
Echidna - Beatrice was loyal and respectful to her creator, Echidna. She willingly carried out the order to guard the library for centuries despite the increasing loneliness of isolation.
Roswaal L. Mathers - Owner of the mansion to which her library is connected. She served as Roswaal's mentor in magic.
Subaru Natsuki - Natsuki Subaru is his current contractor. Her tenacity and ability to always choose the door to his library quickly wore down his gruff exterior. In one of the loops during his early days at the mansion, he convinced her to protect him after Subaru collapsed under the strain of dying multiple times. In this timeline, she has shown a willingness to fight even Roswaal to fulfill her contract. She now accompanies Subaru throughout his journey and augments his abilities as part of their spirit contract.
SKILLS
Magic User - Beatrice is capable of a wide variety of spells, but she is particularly adept at Yin magic. She is capable of a very wide range of spells, though her current mana is quite depleted, limiting her power.
- Different varieties of Shamak including Le Shamak None Ul Shamak , and Al Shamak None
- Different varieties of Minya such as El Minya and Ul Minya None
- Doorway allows Beatrice to connect the library door to any door she wants.
- Infinite Corridor creates a spatial loop of a corridor that repeats infinitely. The target(s) must find the correct door to escape.
- Murak which reduces the effect of gravity, allowing spring-like jumps and even flight (although it is very sensitive to winds).
- Beatrice can cast Healing Magic despite being outside of the Yin element. She is skilled enough to be able to regenerate lost organs.
Curve Removal - Beatrice is able to detect and remove curses, though removal is limited to before the curse is activated.
Mana Drain - Beatrice can absorb mana from any target by touch.
Contract Spirit - Her current spirit contractor is Subaru, who is (according to her) not a true spirit user. She also has a very high mana consumption rate, which she circumvented by draining mana from the people in the mansion using the library as a conduit. Her artificial spirit nature imposes several conditions on Subaru:
- Subaru cannot form contracts with other spirits.
- Beatrice cannot restore her own mana.
- Beatrice cannot use mana in the atmosphere.
- Beatrice can only drain mana from Subaru.
The end condition works somewhat in Subaru's favor as the damage he inflicted on his own gate means he cannot properly regulate the flow of mana within his own body.
