Beerus Dragon Ball Super - Figures

Famous for its often over-the-top and out-of-control heroes and villains, the Dragon Ball series doesn't hold back when it comes to introducing new characters. In the Dragon Ball universe, things are often just a matter of pointing a finger at them; things like rocks and people, or giant rocks with people on them—like Earth. The near-constant threat of global annihilation is the ever-present problem that colors the series. The danger can be terrestrial, like the Red Ribbon Army (not exactly world-destroying, but conquering) or Cell (from another time, but realized on Earth); or extraterrestrial, like Frieza , or Majin Buu. Galactic criminal overlords like Frieza and magical avatars of chaos like Majin Buu are bad enough, but what happens when a literal God—of Destruction—comes to Earth and demands to see the Super Saiyan God , lest he wipe out the planet? That's when Goku and the gang get serious and hatch a plan to get exactly what the dangerous deity wants. Beerus has had a huge impact on the Dragon Ball universe, and here are three figures that show off different sides of his deadly divinity: Bandai's "SHFiguarts Dragon Ball Super Beerus," Banpresto's "Dragon Ball Super World Collectable Figure Anime 30th Anniversary Vol. 5," and MegaHouse's "Yura Colle Series Dragon Ball Super Box Set."

Dragon Ball Super Beerus Figure from SHFiguarts

There isn't much else to say about Beerus, except that he is extremely dangerous. Not only does he have the express right from heaven to erase planets as he sees fit (in order to maintain balance in the cosmos), but he does so with an extremely irascible temper. Beerus will erase a planet in the blink of an eye. Usually, he does this by creating a ball of destructive energy using his index finger, much like a Supernova attack used by Frieza's family. This figure shows exactly that; the moments before Beerus uses his "Hakai" to erase something or someone. Fully articulated and typical of the SH Figuarts series, this figure is no exception when it comes to the availability of possible poses. Expertly painted and crafted, it is a joy to display.

Beerus may smile, but he also has a more laid-back, friendly side. Is it a friendly smile or a smirk? At 7 cm and featuring a plastic base, Banpresto's collectible miniature could be either. With his left hand out in front of him, Beerus could very likely (and more than likely) be preparing to "Hakai" (erase) something from beneath him. He could also be in the middle of a fight and enjoying it. It's hard to say with such a mischievously fickle character.

Finally, the last side of Beerus. Aside from all the destruction and "universe leveling," Beerus loves nothing more than food and napping. This could be due to the fact that he's a cat, but he slept through the entire Majin Buu saga even though he was in danger of disappearing if the Supreme Kai were to die. In more relative terms, Beerus slept for about 35 years (almost the entire time Goku was alive). 80mm and sculpted to show perfect cat-like relaxation. This figure isn't the only one in the set, though; there are four other figures to collect, just like this one, but perhaps less cat-like.

About Beerus

Beerus is a god who first appears in the film Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods and remains a prominent character throughout the Dragon Ball Super animation and even now in the ongoing manga series. Fickle and moody, Beerus is capable of wiping out planets on a whim. Due to his role as the God of Destruction, it seems that his judgments, however immoral they may seem, are divinely justified.

Background

Purple, skinny, and cat-like, Beerus has been touted as the most accomplished fighter in the Dragon Ball series so far. So much so that in the manga series before the Tournament of Power, the 12 Gods of Destruction held an exhibition match in which Beerus and Quitela (in slightly worse shape) were the last two standing. Beerus loves to sleep and slept the entire time Goku was alive. Waking up to find Frieza killed and Majin Buu defeated, Beerus is somewhat shocked.

Special Abilities

Aside from being an incredibly overpowered character in every aspect (strength, speed, ki, etc.), Beerus also has the ability to "Hakai" (erase) things or people from existence. This is different from a normal ki attack as it is an ability exclusive to Gods of Destruction. As an attack, "Hakai" energy can be overpowered depending on the strength of the character it is used on. Both Goku and Frieza manage to master a "Hakai" attack.

Other important characters in Dragon Ball Super

Beerus isn't alone, however, as all Gods of Destruction must be accompanied by an angel. If the god or the Kai they are bound to perishes, the angel must return to heaven and await the appointment of a new god. Beerus enjoys fighting, however, and Whis is far superior to him in terms of strength, so fighting or training with Whis probably isn't a very exciting prospect. However, there is a certain Saiyan on Earth who has reinvigorated Beerus's jaded and angry fighting spirit and even forced him to use up to 70% of his power.

Whis

Whis is Beerus's assigned angel until he dies or a new God is chosen. Passionate about cooking and Earth, which is apparently the most delicious planet in the universe, Whis spends a lot of time there enjoying numerous culinary escapades with Capsule Corporation daughter Bulma . The two even become so familiar that Bulma can call Whis when something is wrong, which in turn leads to Beerus being dragged to Earth with him.

Son Goku

There isn't much to say about Goku other than that he's a slightly scatterbrained, pure-hearted fighting genius. Born into the Saiyan warrior race and blessed with a predisposition for hard work, Goku quickly overcomes all obstacles and defeats the most terrifying enemies, but not Beerus. Using the Super Saiyan God form, Goku manages to hold his own against a 70% powered Beerus. After Goku attained Ultra Instinct during the Tournament of Power, however, Beerus couldn't hide his surprise. Beerus, after all, only has imperfect Ultra Instinct as seen in the manga.
