Summary
King Kai suddenly detects that the entire Southern Galaxy has been destroyed. He contacts Goku and tells him that the Northern Galaxy (the galaxy Earth is located in) will likely be the next target. Although they are in a meeting that could decide whether or not Gohan will be enrolled in a private school, Goku uses Instant Transmission to teleport to King Kai's planet to get more details.
Meanwhile, many Z Fighters are having a picnic and having fun until a spaceship suddenly lands nearby and many soldiers begin to emerge from it. Their leader, Paragus, approaches Vegeta and addresses him as king. Paragus tells him that a new Planet Vegeta has been created and they need a worthy Saiyan heir to lead them. Although he refuses, Vegeta agrees to follow them after Paragus describes the threat of a Legendary Super Saiyan possibly destroying the Northern Galaxy. Gohan, Krillin , Future Trunks , and Master Roshi all leave with Vegeta to the new Saiyan Planet, as they believe his story is very suspicious.
On the new Planet Vegeta, the group encounters Paragus's son, Broly, who joins them in their quest to destroy the Legendary Super Saiyan. Krillin, Gohan, and Trunks split up from the main group and discover that the planet was built by exploiting an entire race of aliens, who claim that the Legendary Super Saiyan destroyed their planet. The three fighters attempt to defend the defenseless slaves from their abusive masters. Goku uses Instant Transmission to teleport to the battlefield after his conversation with King Kai. Broly appears to become instantly agitated after seeing Goku, though Paragus manages to keep Broly under control using a device on his wristband.
Late that night, Broly attacks Goku, even though they seem to be evenly matched. Paragus manages to calm Broly down again, but Goku begins to suspect that Broly is the Legendary Super Saiyan they are looking for. He also has a feeling that Paragus is hiding something from everyone, even if he doesn't know what it is. He eventually confronts Paragus, and Broly's story is revealed.
Goku and Broly were both born around the same time and were kept side by side in the Saiyan nursery as babies. Goku's incessant crying as a baby apparently affected Broly to the point where he harbored a subconscious hatred for him ever since. It was also explained that Broly was born with an incredibly high power level, especially for a newborn. King Vegeta feared this power and ordered Broly's immediate death. Paragus begged King Vegeta to spare his child's life, but he was defeated. The two, however, managed to survive and escape the planet before it was destroyed by Frieza .
Broly's rage begins to boil once more, but it appears that the device Paragus was using to keep Broly under control has malfunctioned, allowing Broly to transform into a Legendary Super Saiyan. Paragus then reveals his true plan: to take over Earth and create a true New Planet Vegeta by having Broly destroy all the Z Fighters while also getting revenge on King Vegeta by killing his son. He also tells the group that a comet will also collide with the planet they are on, limiting the time they have to defeat Broly and escape safely.
The Z Fighters take turns battling Broly but are all quickly defeated by the rampaging giant. Oddly, Vegeta refuses to fight due to Broly's considerable strength as a Legendary Super Saiyan. Piccolo Paragus appears with some Senzu Beans to help some of the fighters recover while dragging Vegeta onto the battlefield and forcing him to fight. Although he is a little more willing now, he is still no match for Broly. Paragus attempts to flee, but is stopped by his own son, who crushes his escape pod and throws him into the approaching comet. In one last fight, Goku asks the Z Fighters to give him their energy. Vegeta is a little stubborn, but eventually agrees. This energy finally gives Goku enough strength to defeat the Legendary Super Saiyan, but they still have to leave the planet soon, as the comet is still flying towards them.
Everyone uses the ship Piccolo used to get to the planet, though Goku uses Instant Transmission to get himself and Gohan home. They are confronted by an angry Chi-Chi, who didn't appreciate Goku missing the school meeting earlier.
