Charlotte Katakuri vs. King: Who is stronger and who would win in a fight?
Charlotte Katakuri vs. King: Who is stronger and who would win in a fight?

One Piece is an anime that certainly has its share of strong and powerful characters. And even though its protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy, has been featured most often in our One Piece-related comparisons, this one won't focus on Luffy at all. Namely, the protagonists of this comparison will be two villains from the series and two villains from rival pirate crews. The first is Charlotte Katakuri, Big Mom's most trusted child and one of Luffy's most powerful enemies, while the other is King, the most powerful member of Kaido's crew (besides Kaido himself, of course). In this article, we'll compare the two to determine who is the strongest character in the series.
King would most likely be able to defeat Charlotte Katakuri in a fight. Both second-in-commands are extremely powerful, but King seems to have an advantage due to his raw power (even Kaido was impressed by it) and his powerful Devil Fruit, which would – apparently – be enough to counter Katakuri and everything the latter has to offer.
The rest of this article will expand on the answer given above, as we compare Charlotte Katakuri and King in more detail. Across several categories, you'll see who is the stronger of the two and why our answer is the way it is—that is, why King would ultimately be able to defeat Charlotte Katakuri if they fought.
Physical powers
As the most powerful of the Three Sweet Commanders, Katakuri is known for his tremendous physical strength and ability to fire jellybeans with as much force and speed as possible, making them resemble bullets and act as projectiles comparable to a bullet. Katakuri can easily assassinate a man sitting atop a huge wedding cake by firing his jellybeans from afar. Katakuri is a skilled melee fighter. He adopts a fighting style similar to Luffy's Gomu Gomu no Mi tactic and possesses Devil Fruit powers that allow him to easily defeat Luffy's Red Hawk.

King has demonstrated incredible strength by either throwing Shinobu into a tower with enough force to affect and damage him, or deflecting a powerful kick from Sanji with his own leg when the pirate was wearing his raid armor. King used his sword to simultaneously sever one of Marco's phoenix wings. In addition to his physical might, King is incredibly durable even in his human form, absorbing a direct blow from Roronoa Zoro's Rengoku Oni Giri and simply being knocked to the ground without taking any noticeable damage. He appears to move quite quickly, considering his size, covering a large area in a single bound.
This is the category in which King definitely dominates most other characters. King is incredibly powerful, so much so that he even impressed Kaido, and would certainly triumph over Katakuri in a power duel, which is why he wins this point.

Devil Fruit
Katakuri ate the Mochi Mochi no Mi. The Mochi Mochi no Mi is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows Katakuri to produce, control, and transform into Mochi at will. He uses this ability to create jelly balls and extend his legs to trap enemies. He is very creative when using his fruits, as he used the Mochi to create earplugs to protect himself and his siblings from Big Mom's scream and also used it to block the cannons of Bege's fortress.
King ate the Ryu Ryu no Mi: Pteranodon Pattern, a zoan-like Devil Fruit from the Paleozoic era that grants him the ability to fully or partially transform into a Pteranodon. He can fly with this fruit and use incredibly powerful aerial strikes, as demonstrated when he attacked the Queen Mother Chanter, a massive ship with enough power to take down even Charlotte Linlin. Additionally, it gives him the strength in his beak to strike Sanji in the gut and injure him. In his beast-human form, he can use his wings to fire powerful flying attacks. You can fire these strikes back-to-back, and they can do a ton of damage.
Katakuri possesses, in our opinion, one of the strangest Devil Fruits among the strongest One Piece characters. On the other hand, King's Devil Fruit is both powerful and practical, which is why it also wins this point.

RIGHT
Katakuri can use Observation Haki to his advantage, even predicting the future. With Armament Haki, Katakuri was able to imbue Luffy's leg with Mochi, causing it to bleed. He can also harden his arm, as he did when Luffy attacked him. He can also use Royal Haki, as shown by the massive fragment of Royal Haki he unleashed alongside Luffy to defeat Charlotte Flampe and her minions. This means he is one of a very small number of characters capable of using all three types of Haki.
King is known to be able to use two of the three varieties of Haki. King can use Observation Haki, and he claims to have been able to detect Sanji even when he was invisible. He can also use Armament Haki, as evidenced by the way he hardens his katana before confronting Zoro. Ironically, Royal Haki is the only Haki King cannot use because it lacks the authority of a king.
We have a clear situation in this category: Katakuri knows three types of Haki, while King only knows two. This means Katakuri easily wins this point.

Weapons
Katakuri uses the Mogura Trident in combat. He was first observed using it at Charlotte Pudding and Vinsmoke Sanji's wedding. When Katakuri enters his Mochi body, the trident appears to be inside when not in use. When using the Mogura Trident, Katakuri is incredibly proficient. He combines it with his Devil Fruit abilities, physical strength, and prowess to unleash devastating blows.

King carries a large, custom-fitted katana on his right hip. This sword's smooth, circular gold tsuba, matching gold kashira, and matching gold kojiri contrast with the light orange tsukaito of the light orange hilt, creating diamond-shaped indentations. The surrounding saya is the same shade of orange as the tsukaito. Attached beneath are two red cords with protruding ends and additional red bands encircling the bottom of the saya.
It's quite difficult to directly compare these two in this category, which is why – ultimately – we decided to share the points, as both have very powerful weapons and handle them solidly.

Charlotte Katakuri vs. King: Who Would Win?
The points confirm what we said in the introduction: Katakuri and King are incredibly strong and the difference between them is minimal, but King would ultimately triumph over Katakuri. This is due to his enormous physical strength and the power of his Devil Fruit, both of which surpass Katakuri's powers and abilities. But we must reiterate that Katakuri would not go down without a fight and that this is an extremely close call, which probably makes for one of the best battles—potentially, at least—in the series.
