The gags
There are several recurring gags in all episodes:
- Eren oversleeps, causing him to be late, and he ends up getting angry at Mikasa and Armin for not waking him up.
- Some characters always end up being eaten by the Colossal Titans at the end of each episode (Eren almost always being one of them)
- Mikasa is completely expressionless. She makes no facial expressions, doesn't change her tone, and shows no emotion.
- Keith gets angry with one of the cadets and tells them to come to his room later.
- Mikasa shows feelings for Eren, but it's a one-sided love.
- Armin is very perverted
- Characters always pronounce the sounds or small movements they make (for example, saying chung* chung* when the bell rings, or wipe* when they wipe away tears).
There are also many references to the animated series:
- On the first day of training, the trainees are intimidated by Keith Sadies
- Jean is in awe of Mikasa and her long black hair, and he develops a rivalry with Eren.
- Mikasa cuts her hair and declares that "the world is a cruel place," shoving a loaf of bread into Eren's mouth and telling the others that she is far stronger than all of them.
- Sasha steals meat and can always be seen eating a potato
- Armin brings a book and reads it with Eren. While reading, he mentions a passage that says "burning water, frozen earth, sandy fields" (although the context is different from the original).
- Levi dresses in his cleaning clothes and carries a mop, because he takes "cleaning very seriously";
- Eren's ears turn red when he lies.
