Chocobo - Final Fantasy

Chocobos are a recurring animal character in the Final Fantasy role-playing game series produced by Square Enix . They first appeared in Final Fantasy II and were designed by Koichi Ishii. They could be compared to the Final Fantasy equivalent of a horse, helping players get around, pull wagons, and perform other related activities that pets are known for. The Chocobo can be considered the mascot of Final Fantasy as it has appeared in virtually every Final Fantasy game. Chocobos have even inspired game titles where they themselves are the central characters, such as Chocobo Race and Chocobo Mystery Dungeon . Additionally, Chocobos have inspired a number of pieces of merchandise , including Chocobo coffee mugs, a Chocobo rubber ducky, Chocobo costumes, and Chocobo plush toys. Chocobos are one of the oldest and most iconic video game creations of all time, and have made their way into so many spin-off games that it is difficult to list them entirely.

Appearance

Chocobos were originally flightless yellow and orange birds with three toes, long necks, and very large wings, similar in appearance to ostriches. It turns out they may have been derived from an ancient species called Gastornis, which, according to Wikipedia, is an "extinct genus of large, flightless birds that lived during the late Paleocene and Eocene epochs of the Cenozoic Era." Later, the original Chocobo became one of many breeds, some of which were able to fly and swim. There are blue, red, black, and even gold chocobos, which are generally considered the most powerful. In other games, white, silver, brown, and purple chocobos are encountered.

Description

Chocobos have a variety of appearances and have evolved over the years. When they first appeared in Final Fantasy II, they lived in grasslands and snowfields. If threatened, they can be dangerous and pose a risk, but they warm up easily and will help players move at high speeds and negotiate physical boundaries like rivers. When captured in the wild, they can also be ridden to avoid random enemy encounters. Chocobos enjoy eating Green Gysahl . A special chocobo named Boko reappeared in later installments, and the name has been recycled many times. In Final Fantasy IV , a black-colored species of Chocobo is encountered that is capable of fighting, and in [Final Fantasy XIII]/otapedia/games/final_fantasy/final_fantasy_13), Sazh Katzroy keeps a baby chocobo as a pet. In Final Fantasy XI, players can raise and even breed Chocobos, an activity that appears as a side quest in several games. In many games, they can also be summoned, and in others, they have the ability to fly. Chocobos are known for being intelligent and understanding human speech. Otherwise, they are known for their characteristic kweh cry. The Chocobo leader is called the Fat Chocobo, a one-size-fits-all chocobo that is able to speak and wield magical powers and is able to influence subordinate chocobos.

Creation and Development

The chocobo was created and formulated by Koichi Ishii, a game director who contributed to several Final Fantasy titles. It is possible that the chocobo was influenced by a prehistoric bird called Gastornis. It has also been speculated that the chocobo may have been derived from Kyorochan, a television character that appears in advertisements for Morinaga & Co. chocolate candies. Another possible influence for the character's creation is the horse claws of legendary animator Hayao Miyazaki, a character that game creator Hironobu Sakaguchi cited as an influence.

Appearances in other games

Chocobos appear in the Mana series of games. In DOTA 2, there is a Chocobo Courier. In the ROG game Secrets of Evermore, a Chocobo Egg can be received as a rare item, and, in the fusion game Final Fantasy and Disney Kingdom Hearts, there is a Keyblade/Keychain ("Metal Chocobo") and a Gummi Ship arrangement that are both named after and modeled after a Chocobo. Chocobos also appear in Parasite Eve and in Tobal 2, where a Chocobo can be obtained as a fighter. There is a Minecraft mod called "ChocoCraft." The list goes on, and it is certain that chocobos will continue not only to make appearances in Final Fantasy, but also to influence and find their way into other video games.
