Should you watch all the One Piece movies in order?
Technically speaking, none of the films are considered canon. They all have no connection to the story we can follow in the manga. Strong World might be an exception, as the main villain appears in the manga's storyline, but the event itself isn't part of it. The stories themselves aren't spoiled for you, so you can watch them whenever and wherever you want.
This can only be "spoiled" if new characters join the team later or if something has already happened in the manga (the Heart of Gold movie is an example).
Watching them in any order is fine, but since joining characters can change the experience, you might want to start watching them from the beginning.
Alternatively, you can follow our complete One Piece watch order that you can find above in this article, which sorts all of these movies in order of episodes, shorts, specials, and OVAs.
One Piece OVAs in order:
There are currently 7 One Piece OVAs. Here are the One Piece OVAs in order:
- Beat Him! The Pirate Ganzack! (1998)
- History of Romantic Dawn (2008)
- Strong World: Episode 0 (2009)
- Infiltrate!! Thousand Sunny (2011)
- Glorious Island Part 1 (2012)
- The Glorious Island Part 2 (2012)
- One Piece Movie: Gold, Episode 0 (2016)
- ROMANCE DAWN (2019) – actually episode 907 of the series, created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the series
- Monsters: Ippyakusanjo Hiryu Jigoku (January 22, 2024)
Which OVAs are canon?
By now, most anime fans will know that OVAs, unless they are actually part of a season's run, are rarely canonical; of course, if a series continues through a series of OVA episodes, then they are canon, but if they are simply produced separately from the main narrative continuity, then, well... not canon in most cases. There are a few exceptions to this rule that pop up from time to time, and in order to properly explain how this rule applies to One Piece OVAs, we've decided to tell you which One Piece OVAs are canon and which are not.
So, in total, there are seven One Piece OVAs (we're counting the Glorious Island and Romance Dawn stories as one-parters, not two-parters), five that are considered special episodes, and two that were released on smartphones. And, while, as expected, most of them aren't canonical (some of these stories tie into movies, some are adaptations of non-canonical chapters, and the episode "Infiltrate" is just a glimpse into the structure of the Thousand Sunny, so there you have it), as of 2023, we actually have one canon OVA – "Monsters: Ippyakusanjo Hiryu Jigoku." And while we still don't know when and how this OVA will air, this story, centered on the early life of the legendary samurai Ryuma, which is actually an adaptation of Oda's 1994 one-shot manga "Monsters," is definitely going to be part of the canon, becoming the first canon One Piece OVA episode.
How do we know this? Well, initially, when Eiichiro Oda was asked about the canonical status of the "Monsters" manga, seeing as how Ryuma appeared in the One Piece manga and how the story of "Monsters" was told in the main series, the author confirmed that "Monsters" is actually part of the larger One Piece canon, despite it taking place in that world's history. Now, we don't really know when the OVA episode will air, that hasn't been revealed, but we do know that it's going to be adapted and thus become the first canon One Piece OVA episode.
Looking ahead, we don't know if there will be more canonical OVAs, so we'll just list all the canonical OVAs here for future reference:

How to watch One Piece in order without filler?
Most anime watchers would love to experience everything, but some prefer to ignore the filler and focus solely on the main plot. It's crucial to make an informed decision about whether you want to watch the entire One Piece series or skip certain episodes.
For this reason, we've compiled this list of One Piece fillers you can skip. We also have a comprehensive article on all One Piece fillers, so feel free to check it out.
It is generally accepted that filler episodes can be skipped or omitted. They normally have little influence on the main plot and characters of the story. The individual stories can all be watched or skipped without affecting the overall story.
So, yes, you can skip the filler episodes. However, One Piece, unlike many anime, contains some really good filler, and we think at least some or all of it should be watched. At the time of writing, 103 of the 1,092 episodes currently airing are filler. There are 34 hours of filler in our One Piece filler list, with each episode lasting about 20 minutes!
One Piece Filler Arc Episodes
In this section, we'll give you all the episodes of the filler arc and explain what they're about. Then, it's up to you whether you want to watch them or not. They don't have much to offer in terms of the watch order of the entire One Piece anime, but they're actually pretty good fillers.
Warship Island Arc (episodes 54-61) – This is the first arc not based on the manga, making it One Piece's first filler episode. There are two main plot holes in this filler arc. Throughout the episode, Zoro is seen cutting off flight, even though he learns this skill much later, during the "Alabasta Arc." Additionally, the crew sees dragons in this arc. However, they act like it's their first time seeing a dragon in the "Punk Hazard Arc."
Post-Alabasta Arc (131-135) – This filler arc features five standalone episodes depicting the pasts and goals of many of the Straw Hat Pirates. Neither Luffy nor Robin receive their own episodes.
Goat Island (136-138) – The Straw Hat Pirates help an old man named Zenny on an island escape capture by the Marines while hiding from them.
Ruluka Island (139-143) – This arc differs from the manga as in the manga, the Going Merry collapses after being blown up too quickly by Ape's concert. The Straw Hats are then sent to Ruluka to repair the ship before departing. As shown in the manga, Hina attacks the Going Merry at the end of the "Alabasta Arc", severely damaging the ship.
G-8 (196-206) – This filler arc, with 11 episodes, is the longest in the series. However, it is considered the best filler arc in One Piece thanks to its interesting and entertaining villain. You might want to give this one a try if you don't mind its length.
Ocean's Dream (220-224) – This arc is inspired by the One Piece video game, "Ocean's Dream" for PlayStation. There are no more arcs based on the video games.
Foxy Returns (225-226) – During this arc, our heroes must once again face the Foxy Pirates.
Ice Hunter/Lovely Land (326-335) – In this arc, the crew battles the bounty hunting group known as the Accino family on a winter island.
Spa Island (382-384) – This is another filler arc in which the Foxy Pirates take over as antagonists.
Little East Blue (426-429) – This arc precedes the movie "One Piece: Strong World." If you're interested in seeing the movie, check it out.
Z's Ambition (575-578) – Similar to Little East Blue, this arc has a movie tie-in. I'm referring to the movie "One Piece Film: Z."
Caesar's Retrieval (626-628) – Caesar Clown is kidnapped from the Thousand Sunny by a mysterious figure with unusual abilities.
Silver Mine (747-750) – Our heroes attempt to escape from Silver Mine, and this arc also serves as a prequel to "One Piece Film: Gold."
Marine Rookie (780-782) – In this arc, Luffy's group infiltrates a marine base for the second time. First, there was the G8 arc.
Cider Guild (895-896) – There are only two episodes in this filler arc, which is the shortest in the entire anime. Additionally, it is a special arc tied to the movie "One Piece: Stampede."
Uta's Past (1029-1030) – This filler arc is also short, lasting only two episodes, just like the Cidre Guild. Likewise, it also ties into the One Piece: Red movie and deals with the connection between Shanks and Uta.
Individual One Piece Filler Episodes:
We've shown you entire One Piece filler story arcs, and they're actually pretty good, but what about the individual episodes? Should you watch them? Well, you can easily skip them; they're not helpful for One Piece's watch order and aren't as good as the filler arcs. Check them out below:

How long would it take to watch the entirety of One Piece?
A One Piece episode lasts between 22 and 24 minutes, but we'll take the latter figure into account in our calculations. As we mentioned, as of December 2023, a total of 1,088 episodes have aired on television. So where does that leave us?
A total of 1,092 24-minute episodes means you have a total of 26,208 minutes of content to watch. If you could binge-watch that, it would take you approximately 436.8 hours, or 18.2 days, to watch the entire series. (Good luck with that!)
Why is One Piece so long?
First of all, it's a weekly manga, which means it's meant to last as long as it's popular and as long as there are people who want to read it. And since its popularity has only grown over the years—not just in Japan, but around the world—it makes perfect sense that Eiichiirō Oda, the manga's author, has all the time in the world to finish his series and tell all the stories he wants.
Another reason is that Oda's pirate saga is very long. He created a very long and expansive story involving many different adventures, so it's a good thing the manga is so popular because Oda will have the chance to finish his story and bring out all the ideas he has.
Is One Piece going to end soon?
Well, the answer depends on what you consider "soon." Considering that Oda began its story in 1997 and has been around for 26 years, yes, it will end soon. But that "soon" won't happen for several years, so it's really not as soon as you might think.
In 2018, Oda stated that he had completed approximately 80% of his story, which still left plenty of room for new narratives. He was frequently asked about the ending of One Piece, stating that he had an ending in mind (the original ending) and planned to achieve it; he added that he might change it if fans predicted how it would end.
In a 2019 interview, he estimated that the manga could end in 2024 or 2025, meaning we still have plenty of time to enjoy Luffy's adventures in both manga and anime format.
More recently, in 2022, Oda stated, "Whatever final arc is currently underway, there are no plans to end the series anytime soon, so relax." So it looks like there will still be plenty of new episodes to enjoy!
