Darling in the Franxx - Merchandise

Darling in the Franxx is an anime series that aired in 2018 in Japan and was simulcast worldwide by anime streaming services like Crunchyroll. It aired from January 13 to July 7 and had a total of 24 episodes. Darling in the Franxx is a mecha anime with elements of romance and drama. The series was popular upon its release in Japan and proved equally successful outside of Japan, receiving praise for both its art and writing. It won the 2018 Newtype Anime Awards for "Best Mechanical Design" and was nominated in several other categories. A manga adaptation of the anime was serialized in 2018. Darling in the Franxx Acrylic Keychain

These keychains are available in six different designs, each with a different colored background corresponding to the character depicted: Hiro, Zero Two, None, Ichigo , Miku, Kokoro, or Ikuno. Each keychain features a portrait of the respective character with a standard expression. Each comes with a convenient rubber strap for easy attachment to keychains, cell phones, and the like. These keychain charms are sold individually and not as a set.

Darling in the Franxx Clear File Set

This set includes two transparent folders with different designs. The first shows Hiro and Zero Two against the backdrop of the setting sun with their Franxx, Strelizia. They are in the air, joyfully reaching out to each other. The second file features Zero Two in her battle suit, with a sad expression against a dark mecha background. The transparent folders are available in two different colors: red (Hiro and Zero Two) and blue. This set includes both transparent folders, which are A4 (8.3 x 11.7 inches) in size.

Darling in the Franxx Acrylic Plate Collection

This collection includes three different acrylic plates measuring 10.2 inches long and 7.9 inches wide. The first plate features Zero Two looking defiant in her usual military attire. The second plate features Hiro and Zero Two happily reaching out to each other with their Franxx (Strelitzia) in the background. The third plate features Zero Two in her combat attire with a worried expression.

About Darling in the Franxx

In a post-apocalyptic world, humans have abandoned the Earth's surface and retreated into highly sophisticated cities, constantly besieged by gigantic monsters called Klaxosaurs (Kyoryuu in Japanese). Having achieved immortality, human civilization has lost the ability to reproduce and is rapidly dwindling in numbers due to attacks from these mysterious beings.

To protect themselves from the Klaxosaurs, gigantic machines (mecha) called FranXX are created. The FranXX are best piloted in male-female pairs. Artificially created children, called Parasites, are specially designed for this purpose. These individuals remain mortal and retain their social and sexual drive, as this is believed to improve the bond between the pilots.

The anime, a collaboration between CloverWorks and Trigger studios, was one of the most popular anime of 2018 and was nominated for a myriad of awards. The story, written by Atsushi Nishigori and Naotaka Hayashi, was widely acclaimed for its use of existing elements in action anime and their blending with the complex character development and interpersonal relationships of the characters in the series. A manga adaptation was serialized by Shonen Jump+ in 2018. As of January 2020, it had sold 400,000 copies worldwide.

Reception

Although the anime aired relatively uncontroversially in Japan, fans around the world argued endlessly on social media over who the main character, Hiro, would end up with. This led to anonymous death threats during its original run in response to Hiro and Ichigo's apparent pairing, and the series sparked controversy overseas.

The series takes place in a dystopian future where humanity has overcome the need to reproduce and achieved immortality. The show's main characters, however, are confronted with their mortality, as well as their libido.

The series focuses primarily on coming-of-age and how teenagers deal with the onset of sexuality in their lives. The series' sexual elements have been criticized overseas in some cases, despite the series being aimed at teenagers and not featuring explicit or adult content. The series has spawned a divided fandom, with one group favoring the duo of Hiro and Zero Two and the other favoring Hiro and Ichigo.
