What tribe is King from? Explained!
One Piece: Which Tribe Is King From? Explained!

Eiichiro Oda's One Piece is known, among other things, for its great world-building aspect. This has also been reflected in the characters, as we have seen that even most of the supporting characters, including the villains, have amazing stories. The most recent episode of One Piece gave us a glimpse of King's story, presented in the shadow of his epic clash with Zoro, in which King lost. Now, in this article, we will not focus on the battle, but we will introduce you to King's story, as you will discover which tribe King belongs to and why this fact is very important when talking about this interesting and powerful character.
King, born Alber, is the only known member of a rare and extremely powerful tribe in One Piece's history: the Lunarians. Due to his heritage, he was imprisoned and experimented on in Punk Hazard before being freed by Kaido, whose pirate crew he joined. The Lunarians are an important part of the history of the One Piece world, which is why they are a relevant factor, and why the fact that King is a Lunarian is a fact worth discussing.
The Lunarians are a relatively obscure group in One Piece, and not much information is available. In this article, we've gathered everything we can to provide you with the most comprehensive, detailed, and in-depth guide—as always—on this intriguing race whose role in the story is certainly important, even if they haven't featured much. We'll also learn more about King and how his Lunarian nature affects his powers and abilities. Some spoilers may be ahead, so be careful how you approach the text.
King is the only known member of a powerful race – perhaps even the last survivor
King has been an intriguing character since his debut in the series, and fans have been wondering about his backstory from the beginning. And while some details have been revealed as the story progressed, especially regarding King's relationship with Kaido, it has been explained how and why he became so loyal to the tyrannical captain and the emperor. King was one of the three All-Stars in Kaido's pirate crew, and he was, by far, the most powerful, which is why he was Kaido's most trusted crew member.
But King was also the only known member of a nearly extinct race from the Red Line, the Lunarians. The Lunarians were, as we'll soon see, very special, and their blood was very precious, which is why the World Government, at one point, kidnapped and imprisoned King, then known as Alber, in Punk Hazard, where they experimented on him and took his blood. The blood would, as it was later revealed, be used to create the Seraphim clones. Now that we've said that, we can tell you a little about the Lunarians and their importance in the story of One Piece.
The Lunrians are endangered, but they are very important
Lunarians are a race of people from the Red Line who can create flames from their bodies (which is why it was thought, at one point, that Sanji might also be a Lunarian, but this turned out to be false). This race is considered almost extinct and King is said to be the only known survivor (the Seraphim are not actually Lunarians, they are clones created with King's blood).
King is therefore considered the only surviving member of this race, which is thought to be extinct. King, the only known Lunar, is a towering humanoid with two enormous black feathered wings on his back. In addition to having black wings, this race is distinguished by its white hair, dark skin, and a flame that can burn at will on its back.
It is unknown whether King's size represents a defining characteristic of the race as a whole or a trait unique to an individual. The Ignite power, which belongs only to Lunarians, allows them to control and produce flames within their bodies. Furthermore, Lunarian physiology inexplicably grants them extraordinary resistance to physical harm, allowing them to survive in any natural environment.
However, there are times when the Lunar loses its usual resilience, in which case the flames burning behind it are extinguished and it moves much faster. It is not yet known whether the Lunar's flames simply burn when they want to or if there is a time limit to how long they can burn (hence their increased resilience). Unlike those of the inhabitants of Skypiea, the Lunar's wings are useful bodily appendages that at least allow them to float in the air.
The Lunars were once believed to be a race of "gods" residing atop the Red Line. According to Whitebeard, the "Kingdom of the Gods" on the Red Line existed before Mary Geoise's arrival. On the other hand, the Lunars were on the verge of extinction under circumstances still unknown, with only one living member of the tribe now known.
According to reports, the World Government continues to search for Lunarians worldwide, offering a huge bounty of 100,000,000 Berries to anyone who can provide information on their whereabouts. This shows how important the Lunarians are to the overall story, as we know that the World Government only targets those it considers dangerous or important.

Kaido commented that the government would never leave him alone during his first encounter with King, then known as Alber, in Punk Hazard. As a result, Totto Land, populated by many races across the world, is home to only three races, including the Lunarians. In order for her nation to also have a representative of such a unique race, Charlotte Linlin expressed her desire to enlist King on her team.
Lunarians can release fire from their bodies, which they can control and use as weapons in combat. For example, they can cover their limbs in flames and use the flames to increase the power of their melee attacks. They can harness their body's natural fire-generating ability to intensify their melee strikes, unleash devastating blasts of fire, and create enormous flaming figures.
The royal flame is so strong at its height that it appears to have the consistency of magma. It is uncertain whether using these flames would cause excessive harm to the individual. Furthermore, Lunarians are renowned for their extraordinary physical strength, which is said to have contributed to their ancient reputation as "gods."
Queen called the still-living Lunar King a "monster that can survive in any environment." Furthermore, World Government experts conducted studies and experiments on King many years ago to assess the extent of his resilience, due to the race's exceptional longevity. King has now demonstrated that he can withstand extraordinarily powerful attacks without coughing up a drop of blood.
Additionally, Lunars lose power after a while or can deliberately extinguish the flames burning behind them, temporarily losing the indicated characteristic stamina in exchange for a significant increase in speed. This allows representatives of this race to develop a speed faster than that which specially trained individuals can achieve.
