Derivative Dragon Ball Fusion Characters - Dragon Ball
Fusion refers to a number of different methods by which two characters combine to become a stronger character. There are several ways to fuse.
Namek Fusion
The first type of fusion seen in the Namek Saga of Dragon Ball Z is the Namekian fusion. This requires two willing Namekians to agree on who will be the "host" (most likely decided by whoever is stronger) and who will be "absorbed." The host will receive the strength, speed, memories, and in some cases, personality traits of the absorbed group. During Piccolo's time on Namek, he fused with Nail in hopes of defeating Frieza. Nail being a warrior-type Namekian meant a large power boost for Piccolo; enough to handle Frieza's second form. The second time is during the Android Saga, when Piccolo has to fight Android 17 and Android 18. He fuses with Kami to essentially become whole again, as Kami is the good half of the evil King Piccolo, of whom Piccolo is a clone or copy.
Metamorian Fusion
Metamoran fusion, also known as the Fusion Dance, is a type of fusion taught to Goku in the other world that involves two characters performing a dance to fuse. It was originally thought that the two had to be of roughly similar size and power level, but this was later proven false in a statement by Akira Toriyama himself. The fusion only lasts 30 minutes, after which the characters disintegrate. Unlike other forms of fusion, the Fusion Dance causes the fused characters to all wear the same Metamoran clothing.
The first to use this technique were Goten and Trunks when they formed Gotenks to fight Super Buu. Due to the incredible increase in power, Gotenks was able to reach the Super Saiyan 3 level after seeing Goku transform. After this, Gogeta was the next fusion character to appear in the series in the movie Fusion Reborn and in Dragon Ball GT as a Super Saiyan 4.
Potara Fusion
Potara fusion is a type of fusion that requires two Potara earrings. Potara earrings are worn by Supreme Kais. This type of fusion does not require any special ritual; simply wearing the earrings on opposite ears will unite the characters in the fusion. The difference between Potara and Metamoran fusion is that, while Metamoran fusion has a time limit of 30 minutes, Potara fusion has a time limit of one hour for mortals but is permanent for Kai or divine beings. Another difference lies in the clothing and voice of the fused characters. Metamoran fusion causes the fused character to wear typical Metamoran clothing, while Potara fusion merges the clothing of both characters or keeps one character's clothing the same. The fused characters will speak with both voices simultaneously if Metamoran and Potara are temporarily fused, but permanent Potara fusions result in only one voice.
Some examples of Potara fusion are Old Kai (when he is young) and Old Witch,
Kibito and Shin become Kibito Kai, Vegeta and Goku form Vegitto, Goku Black and Future Zamasu form Fused Zamasu (which begins to fail as part of the fusion is immortal and part is mortal), Caulifla and Kale fuse to form Kefla.
Merger by absorption
This is less like a Potara fusion and a fusion dance and more like Namekian fusion in that the absorbed group becomes part of the host. The most frequent user of this technique is undoubtedly Majin Buu, followed by Cell. While Cell uses his tail and a giant suction cup to suck in Android 17 and Android 18, Majin Buu uses his body to trap and absorb his enemies. When Majin Buu uses this technique, he displays the physical traits of the characters he has absorbed. For example, when he absorbs Supreme Kai of the South, he gains a massive amount of muscle, and when he absorbs Piccolo, Gotenks, or Gohan, he absorbs their facial features and parts of their clothing. It seems to be the strongest character he has absorbed who physically displays themselves. As for Cell, his post-absorption form is already genetically determined. This type of fusion can, however, be reversed as seen when Vegetto was eaten by Buu (himself defusing inside the magical creature) and released the absorbed people from their cocoons inside Buu's body. Cell was forced to regurgitate Android 18 when he received a powerful punch to the stomach. Android 13 displayed a similar ability, but when he used this technique, his comrades had already been destroyed and he simply absorbed their parts. This is similar but in reverse for Cooler, whose body is absorbed by the Big Gete Star.
Mutant Machine Fusion
Dragon Ball GT offered viewers a different kind of fusion. This time between the famous machine mutant characters such as General Rildo, the machine mutants Sigma Force and Hell Fighter 17, and Android 17. General Rildo merged with the defeated Sigma Force to become Hyper-Meta Rildo. Super 17 is the fusion of Android 17 and his machine mutant copy, Hell Fighter 17.
Body and mind control
It's not exactly a fusion, but rather a merging of one character's body and mind with another character's will. As early as the 23rd World Tournament, Kami was known for taking control of a fighter named Chen. More famously, however, Babidi exerts his will over Demon King Dabura and Vegeta with his Majin mind-control powers. Body control is Baby's specialty in GT. When he enters his enemies' bodies and takes complete control of their bodies, you could say he merges with his enemy.
