Synopsis

High school student Natsuo Fujii lost his momo when he was young and now lives with his father. He aspires to be a writer and spends his free time writing. He is also hopelessly in love with Hina, his cheerful and popular high school English teacher. Unable to act on his feelings, he tries to repress them. In an effort to try to forget Hina, he has a one-night stand and loses his virginity to a moody high school girl he meets one night at a party, named Rui. However, the plan backfires, and he ends up feeling even worse because of his secret crush on Hina. To top it all off, his father announces that he is getting remarried and that Rui and Hina will not only be his stepsisters, but will also be living with him! Natsuo's scandalous love triangle begins now!

Background

Domestic Girlfriend began as a manga written and illustrated by Kei Sasuga. The manga began serialization by Kodansha's Weekly Shonen Magazine in July 2014. As of November 2018, 20 tankobon volumes have been published by Kodansha, and the manga has 3 million copies in print. The manga is also published digitally in English by Kodansha USA and Crunchyroll.

An anime adaptation of the series was announced in July 2018. It is directed by Shota Ihata and written by Tatsuya Takahashi. The characters are designed by Naomi Ide, and the animation is produced by Diomedea. The opening theme song is "Kawaki wo Ameku" by Minami, and the ending theme song is "Wagamama" by Arisa Takigawa. The anime will air in Japan in January 2019 as part of the Animeism programming block on MBS, TBS, and BS-TBS.

Characters

Natsuo Fujii (Voiced by: Taku Yashiro)

A high school student who aspires to become a novelist. He is madly in love with his English teacher, Hina Tachibana. He meets Rui Tachibana at a party and loses his virginity to her on a whim.

Rui Tachibana (Voice of: Maaya Uchida)

Rui, a second-year high school student, is abrupt and unsociable. She decides to lose her virginity to Natsuo after meeting him at a party in order to experience sex after doubting she would ever find love.

Hina Tachibana (Voice of: Yoko Hikasa)

Natsuo's English teacher, Hina, is a stylish, cheerful, and laid-back girl. She is very popular with her male students.
