Dragon Ball Super: Broly Movie - Dragon Ball

Dragon Ball Super: Broly is a Japanese animated fantasy martial arts film written by Akira Toriyama and is the twentieth Dragon Ball feature film. The film was directed by Tatsuya Nagamine, Naohiro Shintani (animation), and Kazuo Ogura (art). The film's music was composed by Norihito Sumitomo.

Plot

41 years ago, King Cold took control of Planet Vegeta, the Saiyan homeworld. King Cold soon gave control of the planet to his son Frieza . King Vegeta visited his son, where he noticed another Saiyan child in a special capsule, who was introduced as Paragus's child, Broly. The child had great latent abilities and immeasurable power. The king was insulted that another child had surpassed his own son and exiled Broly to Planted Vampa. Paragus followed his son to ensure his safety.

When Paragus arrives on the planet, he sees that Broly has already killed monsters in a cave and must have transformed into a Great Ape. They discover that their floating transport pod is badly damaged and unusable. Since they have limited food supplies left, Paragus shoots down the pilot who brought him to Planet Vampa.

Meanwhile, Bardock ( Goku 's father) and other Saiyans are ordered to gather on Planet Vegeta under Frieza's orders. Bardock assumes Frieza plans to kill the Saiyan race and sends Kakarot (Goku) to Earth to save his child.

Frieza launches an attack on Planet Vegeta and wipes out the entire planet and its inhabitants. Raditz and Vegeta also survived, as they were on another planet at the time. Meanwhile, Broly notices Goku's capsule flying as it heads towards Earth.

In the present day, Goku and Vegeta battle on a remote island with Bulma , her daughter Bulla, Whis , and Beer. Shortly after, Trunks calls Bulma and warns her that six of the Dragon Balls have been stolen by Frieza and his men. The others travel to the location of the last Dragon Ball to find it before Frieza does.

One of Frieza's subordinates asks him what he wants to do with the Dragon Balls and discovers that he only wants to grow two inches to make it look like he's still growing. Meanwhile, Cheelai and Lemo, two members of the Frieza Force, arrive on Planet Vampa to answer a distress call from Broly and his father.

Paragus and Broly introduce themselves to Frieza, who tells them that Vegeta is alive and that Frieza would help them in their revenge. During their lunch, Broly frees himself after a clash with another Frieza Force member, and Paragus reveals that he is controlling Broly via a remote device. Cheelai steals the device and breaks it. Afterward, Cheelai offers Broly water, to which Broly tells her the story of his old friend, Ba.

Ba was a monster Broly trained with, but Paragus ripped off his ear and told him not to befriend the creature. Broly kept Ba's ear with him as a reminder of him.

Cheelai and Lema are then tasked with finding the last Dragon Ball, and the group heads there. Whis and the others arrive before Frieza and Goku demand they return the Dragon Balls they stole. Frieza then arrives with Paragus and, after seeing Vegeta, allows Broly to fight the two.

Broly fights Vegeta, who uses his Super Saiyan form and surprises Paragus. Broly, however, seems to grow stronger with each attack, allowing him to withstand Vegeta's attacks. Super Saiyan God form.

Goku then challenges Broly after transforming into a Super Saiyan, however, as the fight progresses, Broly continues to adapt and become stronger. Goku attempts to use his Super Saiyan God form to restrain and calm Broly. Broly, however, continues his rage and begins destroying the landscape, forcing Frieza's group to retreat further with the Dragon Balls.

Goku transforms into Super Saiyan Blue and eventually begins to overpower Broly, though Frieza then announces that Paragus has been killed, which sends Broly into an even stronger rage, destroying everyone nearby, even Frieza.

Goku and Vegeta use Instant Transmission to reach Piccolo and attempt to perform the fusion dance. Their first attempts ended in failure, but on the third attempt, they managed to fuse into Gogeta .

They return to the battlefield, where Frieza had already transformed into his golden form, but was severely injured. Gogeta launched continuous attacks on Broly and almost managed to finish him off with a Final Kamehameha, but Cheelai gathered the Dragon Balls and wished for Shenron to send Broly back to Planet Vampa. Cheelai and Lemo escaped, but were attacked by Frieza. Gogeta intervened, however, forcing Frieza to surrender.

Meanwhile, Beerus is relieved that the situation turned out well. Cheelai and Lemo travel to Vampa and find Broly. Frieza learns of Cheelai and Lemo's whereabouts, but chooses to simply place them under surveillance while he tends to his planet business.

Cheelai and Lemo begin living on Vampa, but struggle to get enough food when Goku suddenly appears with a place to stay, food, and Senzu Beans. Once there, Goku mentions that he would like to train with Broly sometime.

Ticket office

The film grossed 4 billion yen in box office revenue in Japan alone and grossed a total of 13 billion yen ($124.5 million) worldwide.

Release

The film was distributed by Toei Company and 20th Century Fox. It was released on IMAX, MX4D, and 4DX. The world premiere took place at the Nippon Budokan in Tokyo on November 14, 2018. The English version of the film was handled by Funimation and premiered in limited theaters on January 16, 2019.
