Emilia is the secondary protagonist of the Re:Zero series and is a candidate in the royal selection ceremony. She has violet eyes and long violet hair, which she styles with a white flower and a purple ribbon. She wears a short, long-sleeved, white and purple dress and long, white socks that go above her knee. Emilia is kind and enjoys helping others, but she doesn't like to admit it because she thinks she does it out of selfishness. She doesn't like opening up to others because of this and often tries to solve her problems without help. She has a habit of using old-fashioned words because she hasn't fully integrated into modern culture after being freed from the ice.
History
Over a century ago, Emilia lived with her aunt Fortuna in the Elior Forest. Although she was mostly an obedient little girl, she sometimes wanted to run wild and free in her village. During one of her many clandestine trips to the village, she met Geuse and quickly formed a strong friendship with him. One day, the village was attacked by Pandora and Regulus. As a result, Geuse went mad and killed Fortuna. Emilia's powers spiraled out of control as she went on a rampage and froze the entire village, including herself.
Palet finds and thaws Emilia seven years before the story begins. The two live together in the Elior Forest, which is now a snowy landscape. She faces prejudice from neighboring human towns for sharing the physical description of the Witch of Envy, and she gains the reputation of "The Frost Witch." The two also clash with the Great Fire Spirit, whom Puck defeated to inherit the title. A year before the story begins, Roswaal approaches her and convinces her to participate in the Royal Selection.
One day, while walking around the capital, the insignia designating her as a royal candidate is stolen by Felt . This incident leads her to meet Subaru , who immediately takes a favorable liking to her. After the Royal Selection officially begins, the two part ways due to an argument. Meanwhile, the Witch Cult plans an attack on Emilia due to her similar appearance to the Witch of Envy. With Subaru's help, she is able to escape and help protect the people of Irlam Village.
After that, she goes to the Witch of Greed. She goes to the graveyard and undertakes the trials there. She is unable to face her past, and so Puck breaks his contract with her in order to help her overcome the blockage. She is eventually able to find some form of peace with the events of the past. A year later, she goes to Priestelle where the other royal candidates have gathered. There, she attracts the attention of Regulus, who tries to take her as his wife. The city is attacked by four Archbishops of Sin, and she participates in the fight to drive them out. Eventually, she joins a journey to the Pleiades Watchtower when her friends seek answers from the wise Shaula None.
Relationships
Subaru Natsuki - Subaru is Emilia's knight and devoted himself to her shortly after meeting her, vowing to protect her no matter how many times he must die. Emilia doesn't share these feelings at first, but after seeing Subaru struggle and continually fight for her, she begins to show feelings for him.
Puck - Puck treats Emilia like his daughter and enjoys playing the role of father to her. He met her seven years before the Royal Selection where she was frozen in Elior Forest and he thawed her out. At the beginning of the series, Puck was bound by contract to Emilia and her service. After the events of Arc 4, he broke the contract in order to allow Emilia to have the power to pass a trial.
Roswaal L Mathers - Roswaal supports Emilia's participation in the Royal Selection, although at first he only supported her to control Subaru, in order to achieve his goal of resurrecting Echidna.
Felt - Emilia and Subaru saved Felt from near death at the hands of Elsa in the town of Lugnica, after which they became friends. Felt is very grateful to Emila for this, and from Arc 5 onwards, she refers to her as her big sister (neechan). Felt is also Emilia's rival during the Royal Selection.
Crusch's Carcasses - Emilia once asked Crusch for a favor by hosting Subaru while he healed. Crusch sees Emilia as a rival for the throne but doesn't hold it against her. She said on an occasion when Subaru left earlier (though not in the continuing timeline) that she wanted her and Emilia to compete in a manner befitting royal candidates.
Fortune - Fortuna is Emilia's aunt and raised her in place of her parents, and as such Emilia considers Fortuna her mother.
Echidna - Emilia holds no grudge against Echidna, despite the hatred she feels for her. Echidna has stated that she personally knew Emilia's real parents and that the similarities between Emilia and her mother are the cause of her hatred for Emilia.
SKILLS
Spirit User - Emilia has a rare affinity for forming contracts with spirits and is currently contracted to several minor spirits that allow her to perform various magical feats, such as healing. She was previously contracted to Puck, but Puck broke the contract to allow Emilia to pass the trials at Sanctuary during Arc 4 .
Magic User - Emilia remembered how to use magic after her contract with Puck was broken. She excels in the use of fire magic and is known to cast Human None Ul Huma , and Al-Huma She is also able to create weapons with Ice Mark Arts and an ice weapon barrier with Icicle Line None Ice Flower allows her to create ice flowers at the location of injuries that feed on their host's blood.
Hand-to-Hand Combatant - Despite her magical and spiritual leanings, she is actually quite proficient in close combat. She uses a unique martial style that relies more on instinct and natural agility.
