Lyrical exercise

Japanese English
I don't want to be trapped by sadness
I don't want to shed my tears
The cookbook Free yourself from destiny
I should be able to run away
My wish should be granted
The price is indicated on the invoice. To break yesterday's problems
Seize the wind,
Even though I don't see the end of the storm
I can't choose my path anymore, I have to win!
When I can't decide, I'm forced to weigh the difference between love and anger.
Now stand up, again.
The person you saw Where will you swing?
Do you want me to tell you? Is your blade down now?

Interpretation

From the Edge begins with the line "I don't want to be trapped by sadness." This shows the listener that the theme of the song will be overcoming adversity.

The first verse shows how she wants to escape all the pain and sadness. This could be a reference to how Tanjiro felt at the beginning of the story when his entire family was slaughtered by a demon. He wondered why such bad things had to happen to him and wanted to forget all the pain he felt when he lost his entire family, except for his sister Nezuko.

The repeatedly repeated chorus, "Cry for the future from the edge of darkness," tells the listener not to despair when all hope is lost, but to rise up for the future to come.

The second verse speaks of rising up to seek revenge, even if the road ahead is difficult. It refers to Tanjiro, who chose the path of the sword to become a demon slayer and, in return, learned the underwater breathing technique, the most effective technique against demons to defend himself and take revenge on his family.

The third verse uses the word "僕らは" which means "we." In this verse, the song tells the listeners that they will move forward towards their goals with their friends. They will endure all the pain and sad events that have happened and continue towards their goal even when all hope is lost.

The fourth verse again speaks to the listeners about the losses that will occur along the way, and there's no point in looking back. You have to protect those who are close to you now.

Finally, the last verse tells us that the road is long and thorny. We must keep moving forward and never give up.

Single release

After a strangely long wait, and after the song was not released in one of LiSA's singles, only its TV size became available on online stores since June 30. On August 30, it was announced (1, 2) that the full size of "from the edge" will be released digitally on September 2, 2019.

Collaboration between FictionJunction and LiSA

“Not only did I get to sing the opening theme song Gurenge for the anime series Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba as LiSA, but I also got to sing the ending theme song from the sidelines as FictionJunction feat. LiSA. Working on the music with Yuki Kajiura was nerve-wracking, but I made sure to sing my heart out. I would be thrilled if people fully enjoyed the world the series has to offer each week, from beginning to end.” - LiSA in an interview
