Evangelion Cafe Collaboration

The Evangelion bar named "Evangelion Sakaba" is an Evangelion- themed bar and restaurant open for limited periods as part of a campaign. This campaign is carried out in collaboration with the official Evangelion merchandise store in Tokyo, called "Evangelion Store Tokyo-01".

Evangelion Bar Background (Sakaba)

Evangelion Bar, or Evangelion Sakaba in Japanese, is located in Tokyo's Ikebukuro district, an area as popular as Akihabara for anime otakus. The name "Sakaba" in Japanese is similar to "bar and restaurant" or "Japanese-style pub," a style of dining that is very popular in Japanese culture.

The bar is only open during certain periods, usually during the promotion of a new film, and is organized in collaboration with the official Evangelion store and 46 Shokudo. For this campaign, the 46 Shokudo premises have been transformed and decorated with an Evangelion theme. Upon entering, fans will instantly recognize the bar's motifs and colors, which are familiar from the Evangelion series. In addition to the decor, the menu contains entirely original items, all influenced by the anime.

46 Shokudo

46 Shokudo is a cafe well-known in the otaku community for being a "collaboration cafe." It's a rotating themed cafe that can be transformed into different anime themes. In addition to Evangelion, the cafe has collaborated in the past with anime such as Code Geass, Grand Blue, and character franchises such as Sanrio and Hello Kitty.

Open campaigns

So far, "Evangelion Sakaba" has had two open campaigns, the first of which began on November 16, 2018, and ended on January 6, 2019, over a period of just a few months. Seats were available by reservation only. From the very first campaign, Evangelion Sakaba was so popular that another campaign was opened for a longer period. The second campaign began on April 20, 2019, and ended on September 1, 2019. With the second campaign, the organizers revamped the menu to the delight of fans.

Menu of dishes

As the bar is a Japanese-style pub, the menu consists of a variety of snacks and drinks. Notably, all the dishes offered are in some way related to the Evangelion anime series.

Here are the most notable and popular articles:

Sachiel's Squid Ink Pilaf

A pilaf rice seasoned with black squid ink on a hot grill plate with the white face of the enemy Angel Sachiel artfully crafted in white on top. Finished with a red cherry to resemble the angel's red heart. A very close replica of the angel's image.

Lilith's Soy Sauce Marinated Quail Eggs

Quail eggs on a red cross to create the image of Lilith from the Evangelion anime TV series. To complete the recreation, a fork shaped like Longinus's spear was stuck into the quail eggs, with which you can eat the dish.

AT Katsudon Football Field

A katsudon is a rice bowl made with fried pork cutlets, and this particular rice bowl contains red pepper and seaweed nori designed to resemble the AT field created by an Evangelion Unit robot.

Second Impact Pork Kimchi

Another dish on a hot griddle, with sizzling sautéed pork and kimchi topped with a fried egg, in the form of the Second Impact explosion that was a major event in the TV anime series.

Congratulations cake

A simple sponge cake filled with cream and a variety of delicious fruits. This particular item doesn't resemble a character or scene from the Evangelion series. However, it is an item created from the memory of the final scene of the series in which all the members of the series congratulated Shinji.

Drinks menu

In addition to the themed menu, the Evangelion Bar also offers a range of visually pleasing and delicious drinks. The drinks menu creates an image based on the color palette of the Evangelion series.

Here are the most notable and popular articles:

Soda Sour by Rei Ayanami

A white shochu cocktail with blue ice dissolving inside the glass. This creates the image of Rei Ayanami (who has blue hair) wearing her white plug suit.

Asuka Shikinami Sour Tomato

A Japanese Red Eye drink in a bright, shocking red color, accented with a lemon. This color scheme is an image of the character Asuka in her red plugsuit.

LCL drinkable

There are also non-alcoholic drinks at the bar, and the most notable is undoubtedly this drinkable LCL. An orange-based soda accompanied by orange juice in a test tube. A drink that would remind customers of the LCL liquid that Evangelion pilots submerged in the cockpit of their planes. Evangelion Units: None

Happy Hour

Like all bars, the Evangelion Bar also offers a Happy Hour, but not at the conventional hour. At the Evangelion Bar, Happy Hour is called Angel Hour and starts at 2:10 PM and ends at 4:00 PM. In the Japanese series Evangelion, the angels that the Evangelion pilots fight against are called "Shito." In Japan, "Shito" can also be the namesake of the number "4-10" (shi-to). Therefore, the discount period on drinks starts at 2:10 PM every 24 hours.

Using this namesake again, during Angel Hour, customers receive a 41.0 yen discount on all drinks.
