Evangelion Sixteenth Angel Armisael
Armisael is the last Child of Adam and is referred to as the sixteenth angel and is named after "the angel of the womb." He appears in Episode 23 of the Evangelion anime series.
Physical appearance
Like Arael, Armisael's body appears to be made of light. Instead of taking the form of a bird, this angel appears as a ring made of a double helix structure similar to that of DNA. It alternates between a blue and orange color pattern , leading NERV to believe that this angel is capable of changing its body in some way. Due to the angel's long and expansive body, the location of its core is unknown. Armisael also appears to have some degree of intelligence, as it is shown conversing with Roi as he attacks him. Its unique trait is the ability to merge with other types of biological life. This is similar to how the Angel Bardiel does. However, instead of infecting and "possessing" its target, Armisael can merge with them. The limits of this ability are unclear, as it is not allowed to fully merge with anything long enough to display its full abilities. When merging with an Evangelion Unit , it seems that its pilot is also affected by this fusion.
Remarkable abilities
-
Biofusion: Armisael has the unique ability to fuse with other beings on a biological level. He does this by violently piercing his target and physically injecting himself into them. This process, however, appears to take some time. When attempting to fuse with an Evangelion Unit , as seen with Unit 00 from Evangelion , it appears that the pilot is also affected by the fusion. Thick, vein-like growths appear beneath the skin of both the unit and the pilot. As the fusion continues, these veins expand and become thicker. Armisael is also capable of attempting a fusion with multiple targets at once. In doing so, he can seemingly act as a "link" between the two targets. Shinji grabs the Angel with Evangelion Unit 01's hand in an attempt to save Unit 00 and its pilot, miniature King- shaped bodies begin to grow on Shinji's hand with the veins caused by Armisael.
-
Incredible Durability: This angel appears to be able to withstand numerous attacks without showing any signs of damage afterward. Evangelion Unit 00 uses their rifle at close range, but this method of attack appears to be largely ineffective. One weapon that has proven effective is Unit 01's Progressive Knife, which can pierce Armisael's body and cause him to bleed.
Battle and defeat
During a meeting with SEELE, Gendo Ikari receives an urgent phone call from NERV warning him that the Sixteenth Angel is approaching, prompting him to postpone the meeting until Armisael is dealt with. Evangelion Unit 00 is currently the only fully functional unit, as Unit 01 is in a state of containment following its battle with Zeruel and Asuka is no longer able to pilot Unit 02. With Armisael's abilities unknown, Rei is instructed to wait for the Angel to make the first move. As its two propellers fuse into a single ring, two ends separate from each other, transforming its body into a line instead of a ring. Armisael then quickly attacks Unit 00, easily piercing the Unit's AT field. Things begin to take a turn for the worse when the Angel begins attempting to fuse with Unit 00 and its pilot. Rei attempts to use his Evangelion's rifle, but it does not damage the Angel at all. The fusion process continues, and it appears that Armisael is attempting to communicate with Rei. In a dreamlike sequence, Rei begins speaking with the Angel, who appears as a copy of Rei, mimicking both her appearance and voice. Meanwhile, Gendo lifts Unit 01's lock and allows Shinji to fight Armisael. The Angel notices Unit 01 when it deploys its AT field and attacks it. Shinji manages to dodge and grab the Angel with one of Unit 01's hands, though this allows Armisael to begin fusing with Unit 01 as well. Rei then begins to contain Armisael within Unit 00 and begins a self-destruct sequence. The resulting explosion is incredibly massive, damaging much of Tokyo-3 and completely destroying Evangelion Unit 00, Armisael, and Rei.
This would be the second time and the second body of Rei that would be killed.
Armisael in other media
The sixteenth Angel, Armisael, has not made any appearances in the Evangelion Rebuild films to date. In the manga adaptation created by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto , as well as the director's cuts and the extra scene, they are shown during the infection of Evangelion Unit 00. After merging with Armisael, Evangelion Unit 00 is shown developing a fleshy tumor mass that emerges in the form of almost all the previous Angels that have appeared so far in the story.
Additionally, just before the self-destruction, this additional scene shows a glowing, naked figure of Rei, resembling Lilith with a halo above her head.
