Fate Netflix List

Fate anime series on Netflix

Artoria Pendragon may be considered the king of knights and Gilgamesh may be crowned king of heroes, but in the age of on-demand movies and TV series, Netflix remains the king of streaming. That's why it makes perfect sense that dozens of high-quality anime have found a home on the streaming platform over the past decade. Netflix's content hunters have a knack for finding and acquiring content that people love to watch, can't take their eyes off, and devour like popcorn. They scour the globe for this binge-worthy content, so it was only a matter of time before they picked up some of the truly phenomenal animation produced and created by Japan. And at the top of that list is the Fate series, which has spawned over half a dozen TV anime series to date. Unfortunately, only four of these series are currently available on Netflix US (subtitled or dubbed, your choice) as of January 2020. The four shows are as follows.

  • Fate/Zero
  • Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blades
  • Fate/Extra Last Encore
  • Fate/Apocrypha

Of this list, Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blades is the only sequel to Fate/Zero , and even then, Unlimited Blade Works is only an adaptation of three narrative routes detailing the same moment in the story. The other routes that have been adapted, Fate/Stay Night and Fate/Stay Night: Heaven , are NOT currently watchable on Netflix. Meanwhile, Fate/Extra Last Encore takes place in an alternate reality of the Fate/Stay Night series, and Fate/Apocrypha is set in another parallel world. So don't worry too much about your Netflix viewing order if you plan on watching all of these programs. The shows don't all play out as a sequence of events like the three Star Wars trilogies do.

Fate/Zero Summary

Fate/Zero The film depicts the events of the Fourth Holy Grail War in Fuyuki City. The Holy Grail War is a ritual created by families of mages. During the ritual, seven mages are called to the role of Master and each summons their own heroic spirit from history, known as Servants, as ultra-powerful champions to fight against each other in a battle royale. The prize at the end is the Holy Grail, a device said to grant the victor's wish. The main protagonist is the Master, Kiritsugu Emiya, who fights alongside his Servant, Saber. Through several deadly confrontations, Kiritsu strives to acquire the Grail and fulfill his wish.

Fate/Zero was produced by the animation studio Ufotable, Inc. It was directed by Ei Aoki. The series has 25 episodes divided into two seasons. The main theme for the first season is "Oath Sign" by LiSA, and the main theme is "Memoria" by Eir Aoi. The main song for the second season is "To the Beginning" by Kalafina, while the main theme is "Up On the Sky, The Wind Sings" by Luna Haruna.

Summary of Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works

Unlimited Blade Works The story takes place 10 years after the Fourth Holy Grail War and chronicles the Fifth Holy Grail War. The last war ended with the deaths of hundreds of people from Fuyuki City. One of the survivors was saved by Kiritsugu Emiya, and his name was Shirou. Kiritsugu adopted him and 10 years later, by a strange twist of fate, he was called to be a master to fight in the current Holy Grail War. Shirou has no idea about the war when he enters it, but he vows to end it without killing anyone. Saber, Rin Tohsaka, and Rin's servant, Archer, join him in the fight.

After Ufotable hit a home run with its production of Fate/Zero , TYPE-MOON once again tapped the studio to produce Unlimited Blade Works in 2014. The series was directed by Takahiro Miura.

Studio Deen previously adapted this story into a feature film in 2010, to mixed reviews. This time, producer Atsuhiro Iwakami felt that a full series would be a better way to present the story. Shirou Emiya's characterization has been changed from the original visual novel.

Fate/Extra Last Encore Summary

The story takes place in a virtual world, and the protagonist this time is an amnesiac boy named Hakuno Kishinami. Hakuno must fight in a Holy Grail War, which he has no idea about, to escape. He teams up with Saber's servant, Nero Claudius. While similar characters to those in Fate/Stay Night appear in Final Encore , they have major differences from their counterparts.

Fate/Extra Final Encore The series originally aired in early 2018. It was directed by Yukihiro Miyamoto and Akiyuki Shinbo, produced by Shaft, and loosely based on the game of the same name. It ran for ten episodes.

Fate/Apocrypha Summary

The Einzbern family broke the rules of the Holy Grail ritual during the Third Holy Grail War, and the Great Grail was taken to Romania. From then on, two sides, the Black Faction and the Red Faction, fought over the Grail. Each side summoned seven Servants, bringing the total number to 14. And a Lead Servant was called as the 15th Servant to preside over this war, which became known as the "Great Holy Grail War."

This series was directed by Yoshiyuki Asai and produced by A-1 Pictures.
