Fate/Strange Fake is a light novel series set in the Fate universe written by Ryohgo Narita and illustrated by Shidzuki Morii. The series began publication in January 2015 by Kadokawa. The series tells the story of a malfunctioning Holy Grail War that summons strange servants. It also spawned a manga adaptation illustrated by Morii.
Plot
Strange Fate/Fake The story centers on a Grail War that is incompletely copied from the Third Holy Grail War in Fuyuki City. After the war's end, an organization in the United States began collecting data on the war so they could plan their own ritual. After 70 years of preparation, they chose Snowfield City as the battleground for their Grail War. However, during the ritual, some aspects of the previous war were not successfully copied, resulting in a Holy Grail War imitation without a Saber class and with strange summoned Servants.
Development
The series began as an April Fool's joke published on Narita's homepage under the name "Fate/states night" on April 1, 2008. It was later republished as a standalone novel included as a bonus with the magazine Type-Moon Ace 2 in 2009, with illustrations by Morii and an afterword by Narita. Several years later, a novel and manga series were announced, and both were released in Japan on January 10, 2015.
