Final Fantasy Brave Exvius - Final Fantasy
Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is a free-to-play role-playing game and spin- off title in the Final Fantasy series, produced by Alim and Square Enix for iOS, Android, and Amazon Fire devices. It was released in Japan in 2015 and worldwide in 2016. The game is one of several Final Fantasy mobile games , and received average to modest critical reception with mixed reviews upon release. The game inspired a spin-off called War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, another tactical RPG for iOS and Android devices released in 2019.
Plot
The game takes place in Lapis, a world where magical crystals coexist with visions, or physical representations of people's emotions and thoughts. The main protagonist of the story is Rain, a young knight from the kingdom of Grandshelt. Although he is a skilled and competent knight, he feels as if he is always in the shadow of his father, Sir Raegan. Rain and his childhood companion Lasswell are traveling aboard their airship when they encounter Fina, a young woman trapped in a crystal who begs for their help. Fina guides them to the Earth Sanctuary, where the Earth Crystal is threatened and assaulted by Veritas of the Dark, who claims to be one of the Sworn Six of the world Paladia. Although Veritas's true desire is unknown, it seems he wants to end the world by destroying all crystals. Although Rain and Lasswell have never heard of Veritas, he proves a worthy opponent by destroying the Earth Crystal despite their protests and resistance. With Fina's help, the group sets out to capture Veritas and put an end to his rampage.
Characters
- Rain - A knight of the kingdom of Grandshelt. A pilot who took command of a plane at only eighteen, he has a laid-back and easygoing demeanor. The king and people of his nation place their complete trust in him, largely due to his father's reputation as the kingdom's loyal knight.
- Lasswell - A knight from the Kingdom of Grandshelt. He is a childhood friend of Rain and helps her command her airship. His skills are not lacking, and his serious and professional attitude has earned him the trust of both his subordinates and superiors.
- Fina - A girl who emerged from an Earth crystal based solely on the memory of her name. Her innocence and basic knowledge make her act like a child. She is adept at white magic and the bow, but has no memory of where she acquired her skills.
Gameplay
Final Fantasy Brave Exvius is a turn-based RPG influenced by the earlier Final Fantasy games and Alim's Brave Frontier. Each turn, a player chooses from a number of actions, including using special attacks, using items, or defending. Players can craft materials by exploring dungeons, earning experience points and money as they progress.
Players progress through a dungeon through a series of stages until they encounter and defeat the final boss, earning experience points, crafting materials, and money. Another new feature compared to Brave Frontier is the ability to explore towns and exploration dungeons using touch controls in a classic RPG style, allowing the player to talk to people and interact with them, sometimes giving them tasks to complete.
Players can also use magic spells, summon creatures called Espers, and use character-specific Limit Breaks. Final Fantasy Brave Exvius uses the Gacha system, where players can summon characters from past Final Fantasy series to create parties of five units. A system called Chaining can be used during combat, where attacks can be timed to create attack combinations and increase damage dealt to enemies. There are three types of Chain Attacks: Normal Chains, Elemental Chains, and Spark Chains. Players can bring an additional unit into battle using a Buddy System. By adding others to the player's friend list, they can select their friend's shared unit before entering a dungeon.
Development
Courageous Exvius was first revealed in November 2014 at the Final Fantasy Live Event in Tokyo, alongside Final Fantasy Legends: Toki no Suishō and the Final Fantasy Portal App . The game's first release in Japan was in October 2015. Eiji Takahashi and Hisatoshi Hayakashi of Courageous Frontier both directed and produced the game. The game's soundtrack was produced by Noriyasu Agematsu, and the character illustrations were done by Yoshitaka Amano , an artist on previous Final Fantasy titles.
On August 26, 2015, a beta version was made available for the Android version of the game and to a limited number of players with registered accounts on Square Enix's official Japanese website. In May 2016, an English and worldwide release was announced, and the beta version was launched in Sweden with the pre-registration campaign.
