Garfiel Tinsel is a member of the Emilie Camp who has also been called Magnificent Tiger and the Shield of Sanctuary. He has short, spiky blond hair, green eyes, and a large cross-shaped scar on his forehead. He wears light clothing that emphasizes freedom of movement for combat in the form of a black vest, black armguards, black pants, and a purple cape around his waist. Garfiel speaks coarsely, often shortening words or using contractions to combine words.
History
Garfiel is the son of a half-human-beast father and a full-human mother—Raela Thompson—making him a quarter-human-beast. He, his sister Frederica , and his mother wandered during their early lives before being taken in by Roswaal and given a home at Sanctuary. Raela went in search of her missing husband and returned with him, but she never returned after that. When Garfiel was four, Frederica also went to work at the Mathers mansion, and the two didn't see each other again until ten years later. Sometime afterward, he attempted to enter the trial of the Graveyard Witch of Greed and failed.
During the events of Arc 4, Garfiel first meets Subaru. There is much mistrust between the two during the following events due to the influences of Roswaal, Lewes , and the fact that Subaru was covered by the witch's scent. After several extremely antagonistic encounters in a few loops, Subaru decides to convince Garfiel to be his ally. Garfiel falls for a multi-layered scheme that ends with Aries being able to defeat him after he transforms into his Beast Form . In this weakened state, he confronts Subaru and loses again.
At this point, the demi-human is convinced to attempt the test again. He realizes the truth about why his mother left, confronts his past, and decides to help those who need his help from this point on. He emerges from the test determined to help Subaru and begins calling him 'leader.' With Garfiel in tow, Subaru returns to the Mathers Mansion where Elsa is lying in ambush to attack Subaru. Garfiel confronts him and pushes his unnatural regeneration to its limits, which ultimately leads to his death even though he does not land the killing blow.
A year after the events at Sanctuary were resolved, he travels with Subaru and the others to Priestelle where he helps against the Archbishop of Sin's incursion.
The author stated that Garfiel should be introduced in Arc 7.
Relationships
Subaru Natsuki - Subaru helped Garfiel confront his past and overcome his fear of the outside world. Despite their earlier disagreements (which even resulted in blows), they became close friends, with Garfiel considering Subaru a worthy leader and calling him 'Chief' .
Ricardo Welkin - Ricardo was initially wary of Garfiel, but soon grew closer to him after Garfiel saved Mimi from death.
Aries - Ram helped him confront his past and overcome his fear of the outside world. He is said to have romantic feelings for her and often tries to impress her.
Frédérique Baumann - Frederica is Garfiel's sister, who left the Sanctuary when Garfiel was only four years old. She cares deeply for him and occasionally keeps in touch with him via letters. When they were children, when they fought, she would often send him flying, unaware of the seven-year age difference between them.

Divine Protection of the Earth Spirits - While Garfiel is grounded, his body is protected by a protective layer of earth. He is also capable of collapsing the ground, is less affected by earth magic, and has an accelerated recovery rate after injury or exhaustion.
Fluid Battle Sense - Garfiel's preferred fighting style relies on instinct and his superior demi-human physique rather than finesse or refined skill.
Bestification - Garfiel is able to partially or fully transform into a large golden tiger, thanks to his demi-human ancestry. He generally avoids performing a full transformation, as it causes him to act without reason.
