Gotenks - Dragon Ball

Gotenks is the successful fusion of Goten and Trunks after successfully performing the Metamoran Fusion Dance. Despite being a combination of two characters, Gotenks appears to be stronger than their combined individual strengths and can accomplish feats neither of them can achieve alone.

Character and personality

Like many fusion characters, Gotenks is voiced by both characters involved in the fusion (Goten and Trunks in this case). As such, he is voiced by both Masako Nozawa and Takeshi Kusao in the Japanese dub. In the English dub, he is voiced by Kara Edwards and Laura Bailey in most cases, though Alexis Tipton replaces Laura Bailey in the Xenoverse series. None Dragon Ball Z Kai , and Dragon Ball Super None

In his base form, Gotenks has a combination of black and lavender hair (representative of Goten and Trunks' hair respectively). After transforming into a Super Saiyan , however, these different hair colors both become a single shade of yellow. A perhaps odd feature of Gotenks's design is that he has a widow's peak very similar to Vegeta's , even though neither Goten nor Trunks have one. Gotenks also wears a dark blue Metamoran vest with yellow padding and a teal-colored obi belt that serves to hold up white silk pants. A similar teal-colored fabric is used to wrap the bottom of the pants just above Gotenks's black shoes.

Despite his immense power, Gotenks is still a child and certainly acts like one. He is playful, rebellious, immature, and incredibly arrogant at times. Perhaps due to his incredible power increase, he often thinks he can take on anyone and doesn't think about the consequences of challenging them. Another aspect of Gotenks's personality is his tendency to be overly dramatic. He likes to think of himself as a hero and often gives himself names like "The Hero of Justice." Additionally, he tends to emphasize what would normally be simple punches and kicks by giving them flashy names.

Transformations, abilities and techniques

As a fusion of Goten and Trunks, it is assumed that Gotenks has access to all the transformations and techniques that both can use individually, though Gotenks also has a few unique abilities that only he can use.

Transformations

  • Failed Fusion: If the fusion dance is not executed correctly, the fusion still occurs, but the resulting fighter is incredibly hampered in some way. For example, a fat and skinny version of Gotenks was shown in Dragon Ball Z. Both failed attempts have extremely limited strength and ki.

  • Super Saiyan : Gotenks can transform into a Super Saiyan in two different ways. He can either power up from his base form and transform, or both Goten and Trunks can transform individually into Super Saiyans and then fuse. Gotenks apparently had trouble transforming at first, causing the two to try again and transform individually before fusing. As a Super Saiyan, Gotenks was supposedly strong enough to defeat Majin Buu, but he paled in comparison to Super Buu.

  • Super Saiyan 2 : Although Gotenks never uses the form in combat, he must use the form before he can use Super Saiyan 3. In Dragon Ball Heroes, adult Gotenks can also use the form.

  • Super Saiyan 3 : Gotenks' most powerful transformation. Gotenks is the second character to achieve this form, with Goku being the first. He was able to achieve this form after training in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber for the 30 minutes Super Buu gave him, which is equivalent to a few days inside the chamber.

Unique abilities and techniques

  • Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack: One of Gotenks' signature moves, Gotenks creates a group of visible ghost clones of himself by spitting them out of his mouth. These ghosts are incredibly sensitive to touch and unleash a deadly explosion after coming into contact with anything, even themselves. This attack is often one of Gotenks' super attacks in many of the games he appears in, though there are many different variations.

  • Galaxy Donut: A very powerful binding technique that Gotenks uses by creating a ring of light that can be wrapped around an opponent and tightened, preventing them from moving. A variation of this attack called "Ultra Buu Volleyball Charge" was used to trap Super Buu in several Galaxy Donuts that essentially encased him in a ball that the characters used to pass to each other until Gotenks finished the volley with a powerful blow.

Appearances in television series

Gotenks first appeared in the Buu Saga of Dragon Ball Z , but later reappears in Dragon Ball Super to challenge Beerus , though his attempts are not taken seriously. Later in the Copy-Vegeta Saga, Gotenks attempts to be a hero again, but is unable to do any significant damage to his opponent.

Film appearances

Gotenks appears in three films: Fusion Reborn , Wrath of the Dragon , and Battle of Gods. In Fusion Reborn, Goten and Trunks fuse after sensing Goku and Vegeta fusing to create Gogeta. In Wrath of the Dragon, Gotenks attempts to fight Hirudegarn, but is quickly knocked out by the massive monster. Gotenks' appearance in Battle of Gods is very similar to that of the God of Destruction Saga of Dragon Ball Super, as both cover roughly the same subject matter.

Appearances in video games

Gotenks is also a popular playable character in many Dragon Ball games. Some popular entries include:
