Grumpy Bear Care Bears - BE@RBRICK
From The Care Bears Few bears have the same reputation as Grumpy Bear. While the rest of the Care Bear family displays objectively sunny dispositions, Grumpy Bear stands out as the cynic of the family. However, his unique traits make him invaluable in the Care Bear universe because he can relate to more moody children. In the fandom, his cute and grumpy personality makes him as memorable as he is lovable. All of his charm is on display in the fun "BE@RBRICK 100% Grumpy Bear" figure from Medicom Toy.
Background to the Care Bears and BE@RBRICK collaboration
The first entries in the Care Bears and BE@BRICK collaboration launched in 2009. Regular releases of new Care Bear models began in 2017.
Planning and launching the collaboration
A True Heart Bear keychain and a 400%-sized BE@RBRICK Cheer Bear kicked off the Care Bears and BE@RBRICK collaboration. The next round of releases was announced in late 2016 in anticipation of the Care Bears' 35th anniversary. The figures included a limited-edition Cheer Bear and the debut of Grumpy Bear. Together, the two Care Bears served as the face of the franchise and its most recognizable bear, respectively. In 2021, six of the original Care Bears joined the Medicom Toy family.
BE@RBRICK 100% Grumpy Bear
Grumpy Bear maintains his iconic, cynical mood in this pint-sized figure from Medicom Toy. The articulated BE@RBRICK model serves as the perfect base for the Care Bear design. His saturated blue fur contrasts with the darker blue tones of his belly badge. The rain cloud motif features both raindrops and bright red hearts falling below. About the Care Bears
Care Bears began in 1981 with a set of illustrations for American Greetings cards by Elena Kucharik. Kucharik originally designed a set of nine bears with equally optimistic personalities. As the idea spread to other media, representatives from American Greetings suggested adding a tenth bear with a contrasting personality. In 1982, the full cast of 10 Care Bears, including Grumpy Bear, was released as a line of teddy bear toys. The toy line received television specials to promote sales, which eventually grew into a full-fledged television series. As Care Bears grew in popularity, other bears and additional characters, such as the Care Bear cousins, were added to the line. As of 2021, Care Bears is one of the most recognizable toy lines in the world.
About Grumpy Bear
Grumpy Bear is one of the 10 original Care Bears who debuted in American greeting card illustrations. Due to his scowling design and unique personality, Grumpy Bear is one of the most recognizable Care Bears. He is often cynical and rarely happy compared to the rest of the Care Bear family. His specialty is helping the grumpy and moody children his family often struggles to deal with. He is very direct and honest, even when his comments might be considered mean by others. In addition to his Belly Badge power to create clouds, Grumpy Bear also possesses a high level of technical skill. He creates several machines, including Cubot, throughout the franchise.
Other important Care Bears characters
While Grumpy Bear remains one of the most distinctive Care Bears, the franchise includes a wide range of lovable characters. The Care Bears and Care Bear Cousins, released in the 1980s, are considered the core members of the franchise.
Bear at bedtime
Bedtime Bear debuted alongside Grumpy Bear as one of the original Care Bears. He has aqua-colored fur and a light blue moon and yellow star on his belly. Bedtime Bear, as his name suggests, is a very sleepy Care Bear during the day. However, he adopts a spunky and alert personality at night. His special job is to ensure that all children and Care Bears get restful sleep. He has a calming and comforting nature and often helps children with insomnia or fear of the dark. Bedtime Bear's unique ability allows him to go in and out of dreamland. This allows him to fight nightmares and give children sweet dreams.
Soft-hearted bear
Tenderheart Bear is one of the original Care Bears and is considered the main face of the franchise. He often serves as the leader of the Care Bears due to his caring nature. His main role is to organize the world of Care-a-Lot and award Belly Badges to new family members. Tenderheart Bear also transports children between Earth and Care-a-Lot when they need to have fun or escape their problems. His Belly Badge, a large pink heart, allows him to create tangible hearts that will solve his problems. Although he is good friends with all the Care Bears, his best friend is Bear, who loves None very much .
Raccoon with a bright heart
Bright Heart Raccoon is one of the Care Bears' cousins, a group of non-bear animals with powers similar to the Care Bears. He is a purple raccoon with a badge on his belly shaped like a yellow heart-shaped lightbulb. Bright Heart Raccoon is the smartest of the Care Bears' cousins and perhaps the most intelligent character in the franchise. Together, he and Grumpy Bear build a working robot to help the Care-a-Lot Care Bears. His badge on his belly gives everyone a boost of insight and creativity and functions as a flashlight in the dark.
Associated figures
Five more Care Bears are featured in the BE@RBRICK Care Bears collaboration. Grumpy Bear's exact opposite, Cheer Bear, shines in the BE@RBRICK 400% Cheer Bear figure. He's also available in the standard 100% size, perfect for attaching to phones and bags for a cheerful accessory.
