History of the Hulk series
The Hulk's story begins with Dr. Robert Bruce Banner, a rather weak and emotionally withdrawn physicist. Banner transforms into the Hulk after being accidentally exposed to gamma rays while saving Rick Jones's life. From then on, Banner transforms into the Hulk when subjected to emotional distress and goes on a rampage. He destroys everything in his path and makes his civilian life very complicated. Both Hulk and Banner prefer a life of solitude, but they are often joined by others throughout Hulk's story. He is a co-founder of the superhero team, the Avengers, and often teams up with them to fight.
Development of the Hulk series
The development of the Hulk was inspired by several different factors. Stan Lee has stated that his main inspiration was a combination of Frankenstein and Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. When Jack Kirby was drawing the Hulk, he remembered witnessing the strength of a mother lifting a car off her child. Since his first appearance all those years ago, the Hulk has become a very present element of pop culture. He has appeared in several forms of media, including television shows, films, and video games. Critical reception to the Hulk has been largely positive, placing him at the top of numerous lists and polls. He has even inspired real-world structures such as theme park attractions.
