Synopsis

Maigahara Senior High (MaiMai for short) is an affiliated school of Maigahara Music College. At this academy where the country's most talented musicians gather, a rumor begins to circulate: perform well at the school festival and you can earn extra credit. Believing it's true, Serina, a student who's in danger of failing, decides to start a band! Along with Aliciana, Nazuna, Nagi, and Naru, the girls' world lights up as they perform, spend sleepovers, and even cosplay! But will they be able to play well enough to earn the rumored credit? The story of a laid-back, everyday girl band begins!

Background

Irodorimidori is an upcoming animated television short film based on the high school girl group of the same name from SEGA Interactive's rhythm game CHUNITHME. The group was created by Cabbage Saito and Lettuce Shichijo with designs by Hisasi and was first introduced in the game in 2015. Their story is currently in its "second season".

The animated short is produced by Akatsuki ( AFTER LOST ) and directed by Chihaya Tanaka ( White Sand Aquatope None Smile on the Runway ), with Chihaya Tanaka and Rei Ishikura ( Monster Hunter Stories - Get On Board None Overflow None Titan's Bride ) composing the manipulation series, Kaori Goto and Takeshi Sato ( GANTZ:O ) handling character designs, and D.watt composing the music. SEGA's Jun Koshimizu and Frontwing's Yasuhiro Atobe ( Let's Reshape Our Life! ) are also credited as producers. The anime will premiere in Japan on January 4, 2022, on Tokyo MX.

Characters

Serina Akesaka (Voice of: Emi Nitta)
The drummer of the band Irodorimidori. She is boisterous, cheerful, and full of energy. She has a positive and cheerful personality and always finds joy in everything and anything. She has a unique spirit and can't stop once she sets her mind to something.

Alicia Ogata (Voice of: Ayaka Fukuhara)
One of the guitarists in the band Irodorimidori. She always acts (or wants to act) gorgeous and cool, and has a big sisterly quality. She's a caring person with a strong sense of responsibility, and unlike the other girls, she gets good grades and is quick-witted.

Nazuna Tennozu (Voice of: Ayano Yamamoto)
The other guitarist in the band Irodorimidori. She's shy and reserved, and always seems to be in the clouds, but deep down, she has a fiery, hardworking side. Whether it's because of her lack of physical strength or her personality, she always moves slowly. She seems to be a slow learner but is more determined than anyone else.

Nagi Kobotoke (Voice of: Kaoru Sakura)
The keyboardist and co-leader of the band Irodorimidori. She's cool and smart, but also a bit odd. She's usually calm and unemotional, and it's hard to tell what she's feeling. Despite her childish appearance, she always calmly observes her surroundings and speaks frankly when she decides to speak.

Naru Hakobe (Voice of: MAO)
The bassist of the band Irodorimidori. Although small, she is a formidable prankster. She talks a lot and is always on the move, and she loves to play pranks on others. Just like a child, she is always restless and impatient. She has a great sense of style and embodies the adage "there is only a fine line between genius and madness."

Nachi Tsukisuzu (Voice of: Ayaka Imamura)
A professional violinist and prodigious performer, she has won the school's top student award for two consecutive years. She has a distinctive way of speaking and a dour, eccentric personality to match. She is often found in her "Big Sister Zone," a space at school she occupies without permission.

Shirona Tsukisuzu (Voice of: Marika Kono)
Nachi's younger sister. She is a beautiful girl with a calm demeanor, which is rare among the many individualistic students at the school, and she has the air of a deep and complex young woman. She is used to switching from the violin to the cello to compete with her older sister. She is not good at communicating with others, but when it comes to music, her energy shines through, and she strives to achieve her goals despite her fears. However, her inability to communicate sometimes causes her to fail. She has a wide range of musical interests, from classical to rock, pop, and anime songs.
