General summary

What happens when God makes a mistake and kills you? Well, he sends you to another world to start your second life. This is exactly what happens to 15-year-old Touya Mochizuki. Not only did God grant him a second chance at life, but he also strengthened his physical attributes and gave him a smartphone to use in his new world. Touya will meet many new people, make precious friends, and, before he knows it, discover the secrets of his new world. He even becomes the successor to an ancient civilization and helps the other kings of his world, all while traveling with a group of colorful girls. Welcome to "Another World with My Smartphone!"

About the author and the series

"Isekai wa Smartphone to Tomo ni." (In Another World with My Smartphone) is a light novel written by Patora Fuyuhara with illustrations by Eiji Usatsuka. It began serialization on Shōsetsuka ni Narō, a light novel reading website, in April 2013. It was later picked up and serialized in Japan by Hobby Japan under their "HJ NOVELS" line. There are currently 8 volumes on sale as of March 2017. There is also one volume that has been officially licensed and distributed in English by J-Novel Club as an e-book.

Personal reflections

While it's not my usual genre of anime, "In Another World with My Smartphone" seems like a fun and comedic breath of fresh air with a good premise. I recommend watching the PVs to form your own opinion and see what sets it apart from other series in this genre. But overall, I came away positive and willing to give it a chance. Let's be honest, I'll watch anything with cute little tigers in it, haha.

Characters

Toya Mochizuki

This is our main character, who has arrived in a different world. He's generally a kind and polite person, but he doesn't hesitate to intervene if his loved ones are near danger.

Elze Silhouette

She is an adventurer who wields two gauntlets. Elze prefers action to words and is more likely to react quickly than to speak. Linze is her older twin sister.

While being tricked by her younger sister, Linze is saved by Touya while she is in town. She is usually reserved and shy, but there are times when she shows her strength. Elze is her younger twin sister.

Yae Kokonoe

Yae is a wanderer and daughter of a samurai. She traveled from the far eastern land of Ishen to train. Yae takes her training seriously and devotes herself to it. She is also a big eater.

Yumina Urnea Belfast

Princess of the Kingdom of Belfast, she is well-mannered and quite the princess. However, Yumina is daring and is currently having adventures with Touya, her fiancée.

Urnea Sushi Ortlinde

She is the only daughter of Duke Ortlinde and Sushie is saved by Touya when she is attacked by a lizardman.

Leen

Although she appears very young, Leen has lived a very long time and is the leader of a fairy tribe. She claims to be 612 years old and is a magical genius. Leen enjoys mocking others and is proficient in all six elemental magics, except for dark magic.

Kohaku

Kohaku is summoned by Touya as an animal companion. He is the king of beasts and the protector of the Great Road, as well as the eastern side. Kohaku usually maintains his tiger-child appearance to avoid standing out and to let others know that he is one of the Celestial Beasts.
