Hori san to Miyamura kun , more commonly known as Horimiya, is a popular high school romance series. The manga was first released on March 27, 2012, and an anime was also released. The story is about a strong-willed girl and a slightly introverted boy who have completely different, hidden sides. The two characters discover each other's hidden sides and gradually fall in love. The male lead of the series is Izumi Miyamura. He is a young man who appears gloomy at first glance, but his hidden side is very conspicuous and flashy. Izumi is a rather sensitive character and carries some trauma within him. During his middle school years, Izumi was bullied by his classmates for being different from the others and "weird." He usually stayed alone at school and had no friends. Because of the bullying, Izumi became very pessimistic. To hurt himself, he would pierce his own ears. He has a total of nine piercings, four on each ear plus one on his lip that eventually heals.

Although Izumi was bullied in middle school, he had a very close friend named Kouichi Shindou. Kouichi is the one who saved Izumi from a depressing school life, but Kyoko Hori is the one who saved Izumi in high school. Kyoko becomes closer to Izumi after they discover each other's hidden side.

Kyoko is a popular girl with many friends, but she hides the fact that she is very plain at home. She doesn't dress up at all in her free time because she has to take care of her little brother and prepare meals.
