Kamanue - Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer)

Kamanue (釜鵺) was a member of the Twelve Demon Moons in the Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer) series, having occupied the new position of Lower Moon Six.

Appearance

Kamanue was a thin young man with extremely pale skin, his face painted with a faint, dark green imprint beneath both eyes and across his nose, which extended vertically to another, shorter horizontal line across his forehead. Only four large dots were drawn on his cheeks at the end of the line, in the center of the one on his forehead, and beneath his lower lip. His eyes were in profile, bestial in shape, with slitted pupils and pale blue irises with a white ring on the sides, the kanji for "Lower Moon Six" etched across the one on his right. Kamanue also had dark brown hair with bright orange tips that were swept back and then puffed out on either side of his head and arms. He wore a white haori along the sleeves with a yellow scale pattern, along with a white button-down shirt and black hakama pants.

Personality

Kamanue was a sensitive individual who constantly wore a frightened expression, likely due to feeling fragile and weak as the lowest of the Lower Moons. During his short stay at the Fortress of Dimensional Infinity, he seemed constantly nervous, suggesting a nervous personality.

Functional Recovery Training Arc

Muzan appears before them in his female form, after all the other Lower Moons have gathered at the castle. Frustrated, he points at them and demands that they bow their heads and stand before him. Mukago then says she is sorry she was asked to sit down, as she did not recognize Muzan in his current form. Muzan aggressively demands if she speaks without permission, asking her to be quiet and not answer unless she has explicitly asked a question. As she cowers to her knees in terror, Muzan continues to explain the death of Rui, the only Lower Moon not among those gathered before him, and asks the remaining Demons why they are so weak.

Lecturing them, Muzan informs the lower ranks that being in the ranks of the Twelve Demon Moons is not the final step; it is just the beginning of what is to come. He notes that their sole purpose is to consume blood so that they can be of use to him. Muzan aggressively retorts that centuries have passed since the Upper Moons were last changed, but the Lower Moons are all the same outdated, to which Kamanue feels he cannot simply tell them that. Able to read the minds of those he has exchanged blood with, Muzan aggressively tells Kamanue why they should not ask that, extending his tentacle-like arm to grab the Lower Moon by the throat and lift him into the air. Kamanue attempts to apologize, but is quickly eaten by Muzan as the rest of the Lower Moons keep their heads bowed in shocked silence.

Demons in Demon Slayer

Demons come in all shapes and sizes. At first glance, most demons appear normal, with only slight changes, such as paler skin, cat-like eyes and oddly shaped sclera, black patterns running across their bodies in different ways, or a variation in their hair. The changes vary from demon to demon, as some demons may retain their normal appearance while others gain grotesque features such as multiple limbs, horns, appendages, organs, and even heads.
It is known that the more people a demon kills, the more physical changes it is able to produce.

The first demon was Muzan Kibutsuji, who supposedly lived thousands of years before the story begins. The one who transformed him into such a demon was a kind doctor from the Heian period who tried to save Muzan from death because he had been infected with a disease that would destroy him when he reached the age of twenty. Muzan murdered the doctor before the two could complete the procedure by making Muzan drink the last of his "Blue Spider Lily" medicine, out of desperation and the belief that the medicine might be ineffective and only cause him more pain.

Demons are not born naturally, but reproduce by transforming into a person after being subjected to the blood of a very powerful demon; only Muzan and its two highest demon moons, Doma and Kokushibo, have been seen to have this ability.

Abilities and powers

  • Demonic Abilities - Kamanue's power and skill as a demon are poorly established, but it is believed that he must have been one of the most powerful demons to have managed to reach the Lower Moons, despite it being the lowest possible position to hold within the ranks of the Twelve Demonic Moons.
  • Growth Potential - A single demon's power depends almost entirely on the number of humans they have killed, and they can also become stronger by consuming additional blood from Muzan, which is how the Twelve Demon Moons gained their immense strength. However, some demons have a restriction on how much they can use to become stronger, and may not be comfortable with a larger amount of blood.
  • Immortality - Demons embody eternal life and can live for generations, if they are incredibly strong, sometimes even longer. They cannot die by conventional methods, but can be killed by sunlight or one of the Demon Slayer Corps' unique Nichirin blades, the Blood of Muzan.
  • Regeneration - As one of the Lesser Demons, he received a greater amount of Muzan's blood compared to an average demon, likely giving him superior regenerative power compared to other Lesser Demons.
