Kamina Gurren Lagann - Nendoroid

Since its first airing in 2007, Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann has become a classic anime series beloved by many fans in the greater otaku community. Although the story primarily focuses on its protagonist, Simon, the brave and thunderous Kamina is often cited as the series' fan-favorite character. His desire to overcome any challenge he faces resonated with both fans and Simon, causing his popularity to skyrocket very quickly, ultimately leading to many different Kamina-themed merchandise to date. Of course, this also includes Good Smile Company's Nendoroid line, which released the "Nendoroid Gurren Lagann Kamina" figure in 2018.

About Kamina: Background

Kamina was born in an underground village in the world of Gurren Lagann known as Giha Village, which is also home to its protagonist Simon. Although he is incredibly charismatic and confident, his impulsive personality often causes Kamina to get into trouble with the village leader. Although humans are supposedly forced to remain underground, Kamina strives to travel the surface and explore the unseen world above them. His ideals and confidence inspire Simon to come out of his shell and follow him to the surface. Later, Kamina and Simon create Team Gurren with several others who have managed to reach the surface. This group has led the fight against the Beastmen, the main group forcing humans to live underground. No matter who stands in their way, Kamina is always up for the challenge.

Throughout the series, Kamina demonstrates himself as an incredibly powerful fighter with impressive stamina and endurance. This physical strength might be attributed to his life in Giha Village, as its inhabitants are known for expanding their territory by digging demanding tunnels. Aside from his physical abilities, Kamina is also a natural-born leader with a charming charisma that attracts many people. Furthermore, when it comes to combat, he also demonstrates himself as a quick learner who can pick up an unfamiliar weapon and use it effectively in a short time. Like most other humans, Kamina also possesses the ability to use the spiral power, which is often described as the power of evolution and the desire to persevere.

As the leader of Team Gurren, Kamina encounters many different characters in the world of Gurren Lagann. However, two of the most important characters for Kamina are Simon and Yoko Littner.

Simon

Simon is the protagonist of Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann and, like Kamina, grew up in Giha Village. One day, while digging a tunnel in the ground, he comes across a small drill and a head-shaped robot that he and Kamina decide to name Lagann. Although a docile young boy, Simon is greatly inspired by Kamina's charisma and confidence, making him see Kamina as a big brother. Over time, Kamina continues to influence Simon, eventually allowing him to completely overcome his lack of confidence. After Kamina steals another robot from a Beastman, Simon uses Lagann to combine the two robots to create the titular Gurren Lagann, which then becomes the main fighting force of Team Gurren.

Yoko Littner

Yoko Littner is a young woman who grew up in Littner Village, neighboring Simon and Kamina's Giha Village. Before the series began, Yoko's village suffered a toxic gas leak, forcing them to travel to the surface despite the dangers it posed. This eventually led her to bump into Simon and Kamina, who seized the opportunity and traveled to the surface. Yoko is also known for her signature red hair and her proficiency with firearms, particularly her sniper rifle. While Yoko has a short-tempered side to her personality, she is generally one of the calmer and more rational members of Team Gurren. Because of this, she often clashes with Kamina, whose spontaneous decisions usually throw a wrench in her plans. Despite this, Yoko eventually falls in love with Kamina, and the two develop a romantic relationship for a short time.
