Kirigaya Kazuto , known as Kirito online, is the main protagonist of the Sword Art Online series. Kirito, in addition to being trapped in Sword Art Online, is also one of the title's 1,000 limited beta testers. During the events of Sword Art Online, Kirito spent the majority of his time as a solo Clearer, fighting at the highest levels of Aincrad, while also teaming up to help defeat boss battles.

Kirito's appearance in Sword Art Online and ALfheim Online is very similar. Similar to the effects of Kayaba Akihiko's reconfiguration of player avatars at the beginning of the game, his in-game appearance is a near-perfect reconstruction of his real-life body, with long black hair and black eyes.
Always seen wearing some sort of black cloak, Kirito focuses on one-handed sword fighting and using his unique Dual Blades skill, Kirito is the only player in the game with the ability to attack his enemies with two one-handed swords simultaneously.

In ALfheim Online, Kirito plays as a Spriggan with spiked hair, while retaining the same dark-themed clothing. Kirito did not retain his old outfit but now wears the default clothing that new players receive, but these differences were temporary, as he eventually returned to his dark coats and simple hairstyle. Initially, Kirito used a large two-handed sword for combat, surprising his friends who actively played the game, as it seemed unsuitable for his class and appearance. This was eventually replaced by the use of longswords for combat, where we would eventually receive the most powerful weapon in the game, the holy sword Exaclibur.

Kirito's appearance in Gun Gale Online differs considerably from his previous two avatars, sporting the rare and well-fought M9000 series avatar. With long, waist-length black hair and a very slim appearance, many players mistake him for a female player. Keeping his recognizable dark coat, given his experience with swords, Kirito armed himself with a Kagemitsu G4 Photon Sword and the FN Five-Seven as a pistol sidearm.

In The Underworld of Project Alicization , after becoming a valet of the Swordmaster Academy and becoming one of the 12 elite swordsmen, Kirito was given a choice of uniform color, where he chose to wear a dark black coat. His main weapon, a one-handed sword named the Night Sky Sword, is made from the tallest branch of the Giant Cedar Tree. As the Giant Cedar Tree is responsible for absorbing all blessings in Terraria and Solus, it has a priority class of 46.

History

Before the events of Sword Art Online, Kirito was a 14-year-old boy raised by his aunt and uncle after a tragic accident resulted in the death of his biological parents. He discovered he was an adopted child at the age of 10, and since the incident, he began to socialize less and less with his adopted sister, now known to be his biological cousin. As his aunt was a writer for a technology magazine, he became increasingly interested in computers and games as he grew older. Kirito became one of 1,000 beta testers for Sword Art Online, out of the 10,000 who applied. He spent hundreds of hours playing the game with the other testers, reaching the 10th floor.
