Synopsis

In a world where humanity depends on magic to survive, an old man known as the "Magi" meets a baby named Shin, a child reincarnated from another dimension. The Magi, or Merlin, decide to raise Shin as his grandson. The boy grows up under Merlin's tutelage and develops magical powers far beyond those of a normal human. At the age of 15, the Magi allow Shin to live and learn at the Earlshide Academy of Advanced Magic. Although gifted in magic, Shin still lacks social skills and common sense about how the world works. He is mostly unfamiliar with its customs and mannerisms. In order to fit in, he must study and bond with others at the Academy.

Background

Magician Kenja was originally launched as a light novel series by creator Tsuyoshi Yoshioka. Serialization began in January 2015 on the website Shosetsuka ni Naro. The series is still ongoing and published by Famtisu Bunko. A manga adaptation written by Shunsuke Ogata began serialization in March 2016. In September 2017, animation studio Silver Link announced that Magician Kenja would be getting its own anime, scheduled to premiere in April 2019.
It will be directed by Masafumi Tamura.

Characters

Shin Wolford (Voice of: Yusuke Kobayashi)

The protagonist of the story. He dies of an unknown cause and is reincarnated as a baby in a different world filled with magic. The Magi and Melinda raise him. Because he remembers his previous life, he has a maturity that other children his age do not yet possess. He also develops extraordinary magical skills and martial arts techniques as a result.

Auguste of Earlshide (Voiced by: Shohei Komatsu)

Shin's best friend and the prince of the Earlshide Kingdom. He tends to tease Shin and his younger sister. August is cunning in his dealings with others, to the point of manipulating them. Shin and "Gus" act like close cousins, making Gus's other friends and fiancés jealous of their familiarity.

Claude's Sicily (Voice of: Rina Honnizumi)

A 4th-rank S-class member of the Ultimate Magic Research Society. A beautiful and sexy girl with long, waist-length blue hair. She is shy, gentle, and polite. Sicily and Shin take a liking to each other, and the two begin dating.

Mary of Messina (Voice of: Yuki Wakai)

Countess Messina's second daughter. She has long brown hair and brown eyes. She is Sicily's best friend. However, she is annoyed by Sicily and Shin's romantic relationship. Maria can be bossy, but she has good intentions.

Merlin Walford (Voice of: Yusaku Yara)

An old man with a white beard. A powerful magician, he defeated the first devil with Melinda and was celebrated as a hero in the past. He meets Shin when he is a baby and becomes his guardian. Merlin is very protective of Shin and tends to spoil him.

Mélinda Bowen (Voice of: Gara Takashima)

Shin's other guardian and a genius creator of magical tools. She defeated the first devil with Merlin. She and Merlin were married but later divorced. Like Merlin, she is protective of Shin. However, Melinda is stricter towards her adopted grandson than Merlin.
