Kiryu Coco - VTuber

Kiryu Coco is a bilingual 4th generation member of Hololive and is often considered one of the VTubers who has helped bridge the gap between Japanese and English-speaking audiences. Additionally, Coco is one of the most used Super Chat (YouTube's form of donation) on the platform, making her potentially one of Hololive's most influential VTubers.

As a member of Hololive, Kiryu Coco posts a wide variety of content on her channel, ranging from gaming streams, karaoke streams, her famous Reddit meme reviews, and much more. When it comes to gaming, Coco is particularly known for playing games like ARK: Survival Evolved and the Yakuza series.

History of Kiryu Coco

Kiryu Coco debuted on YouTube on December 28, 2019, and had already reached 10,000 subscribers before her first stream. Just three days later, on December 31, this number increased to over 50,000. On April 18, 2020, Coco's channel received a temporary live broadcast ban that lasted until April 24. During this time, Coco uploaded pre-recorded episodes of her normally live news segment, AsaCoco, until the ban was lifted. Shortly after receiving the ban, Coco reached 300,000 subscribers. Her 3D model was then revealed on June 27, 2020. By the end of 2020, Coco's channel had gained a total of 800,000 subscribers. Coco then received an updated Live2D model on February 7, 2021, and reached one million subscribers the following week.

Physical Description of Kiryu Coco

Although Coco is a dragon, she takes the form of a young adult woman with long, straight orange hair with a hint of yellow, a pair of dark purple horns, red and purple eyes, a large purple dragon tail, and pointy ears. Her original outfit consists of a school uniform with a black, white, and magenta top and a red skirt. The chest of the uniform is decorated with a large red and purple amulet from which dragon horns sprout. This outfit also includes a pair of asymmetrical black socks, a black and white bow tied over one of her horns, and a headband.

On New Year's Day 2021, Coco will also receive a special outfit for her Live2D model. This red, black, and gold kimono is decorated with multicolored cherry blossoms and is tied with a dark purple and gold obi. Beneath the kimono, Coco's chest and one of her legs are bound with fabric bandages. Her hair is also tied into a swirling side ponytail and decorated with an intricate floral ornament.

Kiryu Coco Personality

Compared to most other Hololive members, Kiryu Coco is often an exuberant individual who enjoys pushing the boundaries of what she can do on stream, which often leads to rather unusual topics whenever she goes live. She is also fluent in English and very knowledgeable about memes, humor, and Western culture. Despite her sometimes cheeky demeanor and awkward antics, Coco is also widely known for working incredibly hard behind the scenes and is very prone to accidentally overworking herself. Coco is also very closely associated with Amane Kanata , as the two ended up living together with Suisei of Hoshimachi after the group proposed the idea of a "Holohouse," a place where any member can stop on their way to and from the Hololive office.

Hololive Production is a large VTuber agency owned by Cover Corporation. While its Japanese branch is by far the largest of Hololive's, the agency also manages several generations of English and Indonesian branches. Currently, Hololive's Japanese branch has 7 individual generations: five numbered generations, one "GAMERS" generation, and the first group of VTubers often referred to as Generation "0." ARK: Survival Evolved

Although several Hololive members play this game today, Coco is often credited as the one who introduced many members to ARCHE and started what many refer to as the "Hololive ARCHE Addiction." Her love for this particular game runs deep, and others often seek her knowledge regarding the game. Coco even purchased one of the game's DLCs for Roboco-san after Roboco-san realized she forgot to purchase it before streaming.

Yakuza Series

The Yakuza series ( Ryu ga Gotoku in Japan) is known for its unique blend of action, storytelling, and humor and is one of Coco's most popular game series on her channel. While Coco simply adores the series itself, she is also closely associated with the yakuza, as she shares the same last name as the main protagonist of most of the series, Kiryu Kazuma.

Other activities

Aside from her gaming streams, some of her most popular content includes her "AsaCoco" news segments and Reddit meme reviews. AsaCoco is a regularly aired news feed on Hololive and its members, featuring Coco's signature twist on humor and presentation. Although it began as a daily segment, AsaCoco later aired three times a week and, as of November 9, 2021, is currently on hiatus. Coco's Reddit Meme Reviews, however, is an ongoing weekly series that features Coco and another Hololive member as they comb through fan-made posts in the official Hololive subreddit. This series in particular has led many members to want to reach out to English-speaking fans abroad, which has led several members to join the subreddit themselves and post about updates and upcoming streams.
