Summary

A Japanese mecha otaku ends up tragically dying in a car accident, but unbeknownst to those in this world: his soul is resurrected in another!
Although he lacks memories of his former life on Earth, he gradually begins to regain them, even remembering his past wishes.
Under the alias Ernesti “Eru” Echevarria, he finds himself drawn into the struggle of this new world of magic and science. He befriends the mysterious siblings Archid Olter and Adeltrud Olterow and now has his sights set on the “Silhouette Knights,” enormous humanoid weapons he had previously only dreamed of piloting! Surrounded by this alien technology, join him on his journey to become a “Knight Runner,” the pilots of these devastating mechs.

Background

Hisago Amazake-no began publishing Knight and Magic (Japanese:ナイツ＆マジック) as a web novel on the Shōsetsuka ni Narō website on October 16, 2010. As of September 22, 2016, seven novels have been published, comprising a total of 107 chapters. Publisher Shufunotomo acquired the series for print publication and released the first volume with illustrations by Kurogin under its Hero Bunko imprint in January 2013. Six volumes have been released as of March 2016. Artist Takuji Katō began serializing a manga adaptation of the novels in Square Enix's seinen manga magazine Young Gangan on April 15, 2016. The anime adaptation will debut this summer.

Broadcast Information

The anime adaptation was announced via a teaser trailer for the first volume of the manga on September 24, 2016. The anime will premiere on July 2, 2017, on TOKYO MX, KBS東部, Sun Television, BS11, and AT-X.
The series is directed by Yusuke Yamamoto of 8Bit Studio, while Michiko Yokote is writing the script and Masato Kōda is composing the music. Fhána will perform the opening theme song "Hello!MyWorld!!", and Ayaka Ohashi will perform the ending theme song "You & I".

Main characters

Ernesti "Eru" Echevarria

He is studious and quiet, yet hardworking and dedicated. Not only is he mature, but he is also very protective of his friends. He is dedicated to his studies and can be quite courageous, as evidenced by his challenge to a Behemoth alone. He is troubled by his small size and feminine appearance, which has led people to hug him. He is generally calm and collected, but he shows enthusiasm whenever the Silhouette Knights are mentioned. He can also be quite stubborn, which is evident when he skips his main education classes to attend classes on the Silhouette Knights. His goal is to create a Silhouette Knight and become its pilot.

Old Adeltroot "Adi"

She is Ernesti's friend and Chid's twin sister.
She is cheerful and active. She is also unknowingly in love with Eru and adores him. She likes cute things, especially Eru, and hugs him every day. She is skilled in combat.
Unlike Chid who specializes in power, she specializes more in intrinsic control.

Archid "Chid" Alter

He is Ernesti's friend and Ady's twin brother.
He is kind and laid-back. He can sense certain situations and be quite reckless. He is outspoken most of the time and cares deeply for Adeltrud and her friends. He knows when to back down and is very brave. He follows Eru most of the time and considers him his mentor. He shows great strength of character, especially when he stood up to Baltsar and defeated him. He prefers to use raw power. However, he is also quite good at techniques, although not as good as Eru and Ady.

Supporting characters

Celestina "Tina" Echevarria (played by Sayaka Ohara)

A kind and loving mother to Eru.
She is patient and taught Eru how to use magic. She is also very understanding and sometimes worries about her son. Considering Eru's girlish figure, she sometimes feels very sorry when Eru's height is compared to hers and he is the very image of herself when she was young.

Lauri Echevarria (played by Masaru Ikeda)

He is Ernesti's grandfather and the headmaster of the school of chivalry that Eru attends.
Lauri and the king were classmates. Because of this relationship, Lauri once held the position of royal advisor. Lauri eventually became dean, and their friendship continues to this day.

Dietrich “D” Cunitz (played by Kazuyuki Okitsu)

His abilities are top-notch, but he tends to get nervous and lose his mind easily over small issues; as a result, his performances are inconsistent.

David Hepken (played by Atsushi Imaruoka)

A young dwarf and the boss of the workshop.
He is in charge of the development and repair of Silhouette Knights.

Edgar C. Blanche (played by Yasuaki Takumi)

The pilot of the white Earl Cumber is an elite among pilots.

Helvi Oberg (played by Shizuka Itou)

She is a student at the flight school.

Batson Tendony (played by Natsumi Fujiwara)

A dwarf who is a friend of Ernesti.
