One Piece Theory Explained: Is Kizaru Actually a Good Guy?

When it comes to One Piece, it's only natural to think that there are many theories surrounding the story's storyline. Since the story has been going on for over two decades, and with so much content available, it makes sense that fans continue to speculate about certain phenomena in the series. And while some have been resolved, others continue to pop up as the series progresses, and in this article, we'll be addressing a recent theory related to Admiral Kizaru of the Marines. Based on recent events on Egghead, some fans believe that Kizaru might actually be a good guy and that he's switched sides. Is this true? Read on to find out!
The theory that Kizaru is a good guy is solid...
Kizaru, whose real name is Borsalino, is one of the most famous members of the Marines in the series. He has been portrayed so far as a loyal Marine, but some fans believe otherwise, especially in light of the most recent events on Egghead. Reddit user AmishxNinja presented us with the following theory:
Okay, so for some reason, I was thinking about Kizaru's actions and a theory came to mind. What if Kizaru was a good guy? The main way he's a good guy in my theory is that he's basically a more efficient version of what Aokiji was in the sense that he essentially wastes an admiral spot and tries to do nothing with it. His M.O. is to do nothing. Think about it, what did he do during his time in the story? He shows up in Soabody and doesn't do much other than beat up some pirates, then he fights some people in Marineford but doesn't make a very big impact. Personally, I think Kizaru's strength would be almost limitless if he applied himself, but it isn't. You could say it's because he doesn't care, but maybe he just wants to look like he's doing things, but he ends up doing the bare minimum required to make it seem like he's an important asset to people like Gorosei and Akainu. He could have killed most of those supernovas, and probably could have zoomed into the Marineford battlefield and taken out just as many targets, but aside from a few good kills, he never did much real damage to the pirates' overall cause. In fact, his inaction and lack of damage as someone who is one of the most powerful marines and inhabitants on the planet probably helps everyone who isn't a marine more than it hurts him. Other small things he's done are arresting 500 pirates off-screen, which could actually be an example of his application, but that happens off-screen and he also wasn't someone big enough to harm piracy in general (I don't think that's a word but you know what I mean). He also offered to finish off Little Oars Jr. which was probably an act of kindness. Last but not least, he's also beaten Arlong in the past, as Arlong is a jerk, so overall his actions haven't really had a negative impact on pirates in general, aside from the small fish he catches. Another interesting aspect of his character is that he gets people excited a lot. He made fun of Luffy for not being strong enough, which for someone like Luffy is kind of bait to allow him to extract more strength. He even mocked Luffy again to Whitebeard by saying that he wasn't powerful enough to lead the charge to the executioner's platform, which he ended up doing anyway.
Another thing that could possibly hint at his true intentions is his admiral's motto which is "Unclear Justice." This shows that his true intentions are vague and unclear regarding his brand of justice which fits this theory.
The only time you could possibly indicate that Kizaru actually opposes the world pirates is when he almost killed Zoro, but then again, he didn't. His record of non-impact continues since in the end, he didn't kill Zoro. Here's the thing too, Kizaru has Haki, he almost certainly has excellent Haki in fact. He may have seen Rayleigh coming and wanted him, but in a show. Now, this can go even further, but perhaps Kizaru isn't just using his position to sandbag the marines and not harm the pirates, but he may also be slowly leading some pirates, working as an obstacle to overcome. This ties into his habit of goading people.
TL;DR: Kizaru's true intentions are, in a way, to "sandbag" the marines, using his position to not negatively impact the pirates or anyone fighting against the World Government. He's incredibly powerful yet hasn't killed, imprisoned, or permanently injured a single important figure. Kizaru is smart and knows that if he acts openly traitorous, they'll replace him, so he does the bare minimum required to look like an asset to the World Government, but in reality, he's done nothing in the entire history we know. This has harmed those rebelling against the World Government.

And that's about it. The Reddit user claims that Kizaru could be a good guy because we haven't really seen him be a bad guy, and that makes sense, but we don't think it's very likely.
…but it doesn't make much sense
Oda is known for surprising us now and then, and the series has thrown in plenty of surprises over the years. Some were more obvious, some less so, some were foreshadowed, and some were genuine surprises in the truest sense of the word. Based on what we know about Kizaru, him being a good guy would fall into the latter category, as that would be a genuine surprise.
As we said, the theory is solid, and it wouldn't be uncommon for a manga to have such a resolution for a character, but it doesn't seem likely. It also doesn't seem like it really makes a lot of sense. Except he's not presented as a killer; there's nothing to suggest he's a good guy. He hasn't really saved anyone, he hasn't really done anything suspicious… we just haven't seen him be the villain we think he is. But everything he says and fights for suggests that he is indeed a villain in the series.
And while it wouldn't be impossible for Oda to trick us and reveal that Kizaru is actually a good guy, the theories presented don't make much sense and it seems unlikely that Oda will give us such a twist in the series, so we don't think Kizaru will switch sides in the series.
