Law vs. Luffy: Who Would Win in a Fight?
Law vs. Luffy: Who Would Win in a Fight?

One Piece is an anime that certainly has its share of strong and powerful characters. Monkey D. Luffy, the protagonist of the series, has been featured most often in our One Piece comparisons, and this will be the case in this article as well. The character we'll be comparing him to is Trafalgar D. Water Law, the captain of the Hearts Pirates. In this article, we'll be analyzing both, just as we'll be pitting Luffy against Law to finally determine who is the stronger of the two.
Had this article been written earlier, the situation would have been more difficult, since Law is very similar to Luffy in terms of power. But since Luffy activated Gear 5 and discovered the true nature of his Devil Fruit, he has surpassed Law in every way and is clearly the winner of this matchup right now.
The rest of this article will expand on the answer given above, as we'll compare Luffy and Law in more detail. Through several categories, you'll see who is the stronger of the two and why our answer is the way it is—that is, why Luffy would definitely be able to defeat Law in a direct fight.
Physical powers
Although Caesar stated that the Yeti Cool Brothers were very strong, Law managed to take out one of them with relative ease. He also displayed great resilience, withstanding a direct blow to Caesar's heart, which only caused him to lose consciousness momentarily. He was able to withstand a prolonged beating from Vergo, and although the fight was brutal and bloody, when he regained his heart, he defeated him with a cut, although Doflamingo stated that when Vergo used Busoshoku Haki, it was impossible to cut.
Even when defeated and injured by Donquixote Doflamingo and Admiral Issho, Law was able to quickly recover and escape. In his second confrontation with Doflamingo, he was able to fight him off, and despite still being injured from their first encounter and even after his right arm was amputated and further injured, he was able to continue fighting and stand up to Doflamingo, inflicting a serious injury with his Gamma Knife move. Even when incapacitated by Trebol, he was able to use his severed arm and even defeat the Supreme Officer.

Luffy possesses immense physical strength, enough to lift gigantic boulders and shatter steel with his bare hands. His physical strength stems in part from the training his grandfather Garp subjected him to as a child, during which he survived critical circumstances and faced enormous ferocious beasts. Even as a child, he was able to defeat adults and endure Polchemy's tortures.
His physical strength is such that he can defeat the strongest fugitives of the Eastern Sea and rival even that of the fish-men, as demonstrated in the battles against Arlong and Hody Jones, whose strength was even greater than that of the average of their race. . Especially against Hody, after two years of training, he showed himself clearly superior, so much so that he defeated him despite being fed energy steroids.
This was the hardest category to evaluate in this article, but since we now know how strong Luffy is after the time skip and his victory over Kaidou, we had to give the point to the Straw Hat.

Devil Fruit
Law possesses the power of a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit, the Ope Ope no Mi, which allows him to create a spherical area of light blue aura. As Smoker says, after eating this Devil Fruit, Law becomes a "man-modifier." In this area, he is able to separate and spatially move anything and everything. With his powers, he is able to give the impression that he can quickly slice people into pieces from a distance with his sword.
He can also join the separated parts together as he sees fit, such as slamming someone's head against a barrel. People separated by this ability are not killed and can still feel their separated parts, no matter how far apart they are (much like Buggy separates himself using the powers of the Bara Bara no Mid fruit).
The effect persists even after Law deactivates his power. The separated pieces can be reassembled, even by someone other than Law. He can make people and objects within his sphere swap places, as he did with Jean Bart and Bepo to protect the latter from a Pacifista; for example, he can exchange pistol bullets for snowflakes contained within the sphere to protect himself.

Luffy ate the Gomu Gomu Devil Fruit, which gave him rubber, giving him the ability to stretch his body parts and strike his enemies from long distances. Although he struggled as a child to fully control his power, after over ten years of intense training, Luffy was able to use the fruit to exponentially improve his physical strength and agility, making him a dangerous opponent.
Although his fighting style sometimes appears improvised, it is precisely his creativity that makes him an unpredictable opponent, capable of turning critical situations around by occasionally adapting to the fight. His rubber body also makes him extremely durable and immune to sea bullets, normal blows, and even electricity.
However, he is not immune to swords and knives, as well as dehydration or poison, although after the fight with Magellan he becomes immune to a wide variety of them.
Initially, Law might have stood a chance against Luffy in this category, but that was only due to the fact that Luffy hadn't activated his Gomu Gomu no Mi's true form. Now that he has, there is absolutely no chance Law can beat him.

RIGHT
Luffy announced that Law possessed Haki. The extent of his ability to use it was not revealed, but he demonstrated sufficient mastery of Busoshoku Haki to block Donquixote Doflamingo's five colored strings, which still cut through half of his palace. During his battle with Doflamingo, he also used his Buoshoku Haki offensively, successively hardening his fist and then his foot to attack the Corsair Captain. During his battle with Smoker, Law proved capable of bypassing Logia's defenses.
At one point, after Law and his crew visited Amazon Lily to rescue Luffy and Jinbe, while Law's crewmates were admiring the beauty of the Amazons, prompting Law to warn them that they were dangerous, one of the Amazons fired an arrow imbued with her Haki at the Corsair Captain, and thus ducked her head to dodge it, presumably thanks to Kenbunshoku Haki. He is a skilled user of it, though he has never explicitly shown it.
Luffy was trained by Silvers Rayleigh to become an expert Haki user. He is adept at using Observation Haki, which he first instinctively used against Mihawk, avoiding a blow that would have severed his arms. He also possesses high levels of Armament Haki, making it an essential component of Gear Four. Using this ability in combination with his own Devil Fruit powers, Luffy is also able to ignite his fists with friction.
He also knows how to use the rarest form of Haki, Royal Haki, which is his favorite. With it, he was able to knock out fifty thousand fishmen with one blow. During his confrontation with Kaido, he proved to be one of the few individuals capable of using it to enhance his attacks. His third fight against the emperor also tore the sky apart.
The fact that Luffy can use all three types of Haki, while Law only knows two, makes this situation quite clear. This point simply has to go back to Luffy for reasons of quantity.

Weapons
Law possesses a sword called Kikoku, this sword does not belong to any qualification named by Tashigi, because according to Oda it is a cursed sword. This sword appears to be a nodachi (sword similar to traditional katanas, but much longer, blade about 1.20 m). Law seems quite adept at swordsmanship, as he can slice his targets from long distances (although this power is also due to his Devil Fruit). Law was able to deflect Doflamingo's ropes with his sword, which is remarkable, as Doflamingo has managed to effortlessly cut everything else so far.

Luffy rarely uses weapons in combat, mainly due to his inexperience and inability to use them. As a child, he wielded a metal pipe, and it is probably the most sophisticated weapon he has successfully wielded. In Arlong Park, Luffy briefly attempted to fight with swords but failed miserably.
Ultimately, as with almost every game, Luffy loses in this category because Law is a better weapon user. Luffy doesn't usually use weapons and is quite clumsy with them.

Trafalgar D. Water Law vs. Monkey D. Luffy: Who Wins?
And while Trafalgar Law is one of the most powerful characters in One Piece, this comparison was pretty straightforward because Luffy is who he is. As the points confirm, Luffy massively beats Law in almost every category except weapon use, but that was to be expected. This comparison was written a few years ago, before Luffy activated both Gear 5 and the true nature of his Devil Fruit.
Now that this has been done, Law simply cannot stand up to Luffy's incredible powers. He is a better weapon user than Luffy, but in every other category, the Straw Hat Pirates clearly win, and that's why we're sure Luffy will eventually win this one.
