Shanks' Conqueror's Haki Explained
One Piece: Shanks' Conqueror's Haki Explained!

Shanks… everyone knows who Shanks is! He's a supporting character, but he's one of the most popular characters in the One Piece series. He's a legendary pirate and one of the strongest characters in the entire series, so it makes perfect sense that he's one of the most talked-about characters in the entire series. Shanks is exceptionally powerful, and in this article, we've decided to tell you about one of his specific powers: his Conqueror's Haki. In this article, we'll explain Shanks's Conqueror's Haki and what it can do in the series as a whole.
What is Conqueror's Haki in One Piece?
Before we talk about Shanks, we thought it would be a good idea to go over what Conqueror's Haki is, which we will do in this section. Conqueror's Haki is one of the three types of Haki seen in One Piece. It is the most powerful and rarest form of Haki seen in the series; it is also known as Royal Haki or King's Haki, depending on how you translate it.
It cannot be learned, and only one in a million people are born with this ability. Those who can use it possess the character of a king and stand above the masses. It is precisely for this reason that those who possess this type of Haki are considered extremely dangerous, so much so that they cause a stir among individuals of the caliber of emperors or naval admirals.
This type of Haki grants the power of intimidation. Those who use it can render weak-willed people unconscious, causing them to shiver all over their bodies before fainting. Those inexperienced in controlling this power can cause people to faint indiscriminately, whether friend or foe. At the same time, experts can accurately hit their intended targets without harming anyone nearby.
While this type of Haki cannot be trained directly, it can improve as it grows with the individual's mind. Those who have fully mastered this type of Haki can also cause physical damage to the surrounding world, as demonstrated when Shanks displays his Haki while climbing Moby Dick. Furthermore, when two possessors of this ability collide, they generate shockwaves that impact the surrounding environment, displacing everyone nearby.
In the case of particularly powerful individuals, this clash can even severely damage everything around them, or even split the sky in two. Like Armament Haki, this type of Haki can be used to cover one's body and weapons, but only very few individuals are capable of it.
How powerful is Shanks' Conqueror's Haki?
Now that we have explained what the Conqueror's Haki actually is, we can actually discuss Shank's Conqueror's Haki, which has been seen on more than one occasion in the series and which was proven to be one of the most powerful ones in the series. This is why we think that it has to be discussed, especially in light of the most recent events from Wano Country. So, here we go.
The first time he demonstrated this ability was during Luffy's rescue, where he drove off the Sea King that had attacked Luffy, the Lord of the Coast. As the Lord of the Coast was about to eat Luffy, Shanks simply looked at him, and that was enough for the beast to flee. Now, this wasn't originally a demonstration of Conqueror's Haki, but Oda made a small comeback later in the series and changed the story, confirming that it was indeed Conqueror's Haki.
During his encounter with Newgate, he managed to damage Moby Dick with it, and even the latter praised him for his high level of use; he actually managed to knock out the entire Whitebeard Pirates with it. He knows how to use it to hit only whoever he wants, and his level with this power is such that if he had used it on Fish-Man Island instead of Luffy, he would have likely eliminated all 100,000 opponents instead of just 50,000. When he used it during the skirmish with Newgate, who was also capable of using it in the same way, the sky was torn in two.
Once he arrived in Wano Country, he even managed to make his presence felt by individuals who were a considerable distance away from him, emanating Conqueror's Haki on a whole new level. Even though he wasn't close to them, Luffy's allies fighting Ryokugyoku sensed him, as did the admiral, and when he sensed Shanks approaching, he simply retreated. It was an astonishing display of Shanks's abilities with Conqueror's Haki, but even that isn't his peak, as he still has a trick up his sleeve.
Using his Conqueror's Haki, he can use a technique called Observation Killing, with which he can prevent Observation Haki users from seeing the future.
