Levi Ackermann - Attack on Titan
Levi Ackermann is the strongest and most skilled soldier in the Survey Corps and is the leader of the Special Operations Squad . Levi, with a dark past, lived his thug life in hiding before turning his life around in the Survey Corps, thanks to Erwin Smith who spotted him. Although very cold, distant, and strict, he has strong leadership skills that inspire the people around him. The main character of Attack on Titan , Eren Jaeger , especially, respects Levi for his leadership and abilities.
Levi is often seen disciplining and controlling his subordinates through physical means, especially Eren , but always with good intentions. His strictness in his lessons is necessary when trying to instruct his subordinates who can potentially lose their lives due to simple mistakes on the battlefield. Being in such a high position makes him feel responsible for the soldiers he leads and shows distress when they die.
Throughout the series, Levi is seen attacking Titans quickly and efficiently while maintaining an expressionless face most of the time.
Character Background
The son of a prostitute named Kuchel Ackerman, Levi lived in the Underground. Kenny Ackerman, Kuchel's brother, took Levi into his care after noticing that his sister had died. Kenny taught Levi everything he knew. He was especially skilled in the art of killing, as Kenny was infamously known as Kenny the Ripper. However, he wasn't cruel enough to let a child die, but not kind enough to be a parent, as Kenny says in Season 3, Episode 10 of the animated series.
Kenny teaches Levi how to survive in the underworld, first by holding and wielding a knife, then by "getting along with people," "greeting people," and making deals, as the scene shifts from Levi holding and wielding a knife to intimidating people like a gangster.
One day, as soon as Kenny felt that Levi had learned enough of what needed to be learned, Kenny abandoned Levi in the middle of a fight.

Although he is often seen as indifferent, he shows his warmth through his actions and by coming to the aid of his comrades and friends. Through this story, as seen in Attack on Titan: A Choice Without Regrets - OVA Episode 1 Part 1. Levi appears to be ignorant of the world around him and naive. He shows a general interest in what awaits him as a surface citizen. Being in the Survey Corps gave him the opportunity to live a normal and respectable life while killing Titans.
In this part of the series, his two friends, Furlan Church and Isabel Magnolia, are killed during the 23rd expedition beyond the walls. Putting the pieces together helps us understand why Levi is the way he is. Having a troubled past, his mother dying at a young age, growing up with an uncle who taught him violence, being abandoned, and losing two people close to him may explain his indifference to basic human experiences, including death and murder.
Path to the Special Operations Team
Levi spends his adult life as a thug with his friend Furlan Church and Isabel Magnolia. It is also revealed that he and Fraland taught themselves how to use (possibly stolen) vertical maneuvering equipment, which demonstrated a high level of skill and intelligence.
Initially, Levi is approached by Nicholas Lobov, who threatens and bribes him into killing Survey Corps Captain Erwin Smith. Erwin has evidence of Nicholas Lobov's illegal activities and could, if he chose, remove him from his position. Nicholas Lobov tells Levi to join the Survey Corps as a con artist to assassinate Erwin. The reward: surface citizenship, as all of them—Levi, Furlan, and Isabel—came from the underground and may have been living without papers.
He was then pursued by the Survey Corps and Erwin. Ewin made a deal with Levi. Levi's crimes from his rogue past would be forgiven on the condition that Levi join the Survey Corps during the 23rd expedition beyond the walls. At this time, Levi was still a rogue and lacked discipline, but he managed to make himself useful to the Survey Corps. During the expedition, events quickly escalated, and a Titan killed Furlan and Isabel. Levi, while taking a detour to kill Erwin Smith, became the sole survivor.
Realizing that his friends have been killed, Levi flies into a murderous rage and kills the Titan that took his friends' lives. Erwin Smith sternly tells Levi that his plans have been foiled and that the evidence of Nicholas Lobov's illegal activities has been revealed, and that it is now over.
Erwin continues with, "We will continue the expeditions. You will come with me." From there, Levi makes the decision to continue becoming the best soldier and leader of the Survey Corps and earning a deep respect for Erwin Smith.
