Synopsis

High school student Yuko wakes up one morning to discover she has demonic powers. Although she looks like a girl with horns and a tail, she's actually weaker than your average girl. To undo the curse, she must commit to defeating a magical girl, but does she stand a chance?! A daily magical comedy begins between an ignorant, mediocre demon and a cool, weightlifting magical girl!

Background

Machikado Mazoku began as a four-part manga by Izumi Ito that has been serialized by Houbunsha in the seinen manga magazine Manga Time Kirara Carat since 2014. As of October 2018, four tankobon have been published.

An anime adaptation was announced in the March 2019 issue of Manga Time Kirara Carat. The anime is produced by JCStaff with Hiroaki Sakurai directing, Keiichiro Ochi writing the script, and Mai Otsuka designing the characters. Voice acting duo Shami Momo (consisting of Konomi Kohara and Akari Kito) will perform the opening theme song "Machi Kado Tangent," and voice acting duo Koro Machi Kado (consisting of Kohara, Kito, Minami Takahashi, and Tomoyo Takayanagi) will perform the ending theme song "Yoi Machi Cantare." The anime will premiere in Japan in July 2019.

Characters

Momo Chiyoda (Voice of: Akari Kito)

Momo is a quiet girl who doesn't talk much about herself. She is 15 years old and attends Sakuragaoka High School. She is in Class 1-A. She is an extremely powerful magical girl who is also physically strong. Her hobby is weightlifting. She has short peach-colored hair and wears a pin in her bangs. She appears methodical and serious, but she has a rather rough personality. She lives alone and enjoys collecting objects.

Yūko Yoshida (Voice of: Konomi Kohara)

Yuko is an ordinary 15-year-old high school student at Sakuragaoka High School in Class 1-D. She wakes up one morning and discovers she has demonic powers. To save her family from financial problems, Yuko must defeat a magical girl. She is nicknamed "Shamiko" by Momo and the others. She is a serious and hardworking girl, but she is often clumsy. Her hobby is playing video games and old-school RPGs.

Lilith (Voiced by: Minami Takahashi)

Yuko's ancestor, Lilith, is believed to be between 4,000 and 5,000 years old. Hailing from Mesopotamia, Lilith is a dark-skinned witch who gave Yuko her demonic powers. She is the founder of a dark clan bent on world domination and can enter the dreams of others and manipulate them as she pleases. Several thousand years ago, she was sealed away after a battle with the Light Clan. She first appears to Yuko in a dream.

Mikan Hinatsuki (Voiced by: Tomoyo Takayanagi)

Mikan is a magical girl and a first-year student at Sakuragaoka High School. She has red hair that she wears in a bun. She transfers to Sakuragaoka to protect Yuko. She has a helpful and kind personality.
