Metia - Re:Zero
Re: Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu: Metia
Summary
Metia (ミーティア), or Meteor, is the term for any utensil that allows the use of magic to those whose Gates (think chakras in yoga) are not functional for whatever reason. The form and use of Metia vary greatly. Using Metia requires no prior training or magical influx, being powered by its own magic generator as opposed to the user's mana. The rarest magic generator is a mana stone. The majority of Metia were created by the world's most skilled artisans.
Subaru 's cell phone was counted as a Metia when traded with Rom , though it may have had nothing to do with magic.
Here is the list of Metia that appear in the series, in alphabetical order.
Metia
Animal Protection Bracelet
This Metia allows its wearer to take on a bestial appearance and thus become stronger thanks to the powerful surge of mana, while simultaneously losing almost all of their reasoning abilities. As its name suggests, it is intended to be used in times of need.
Conversing Mirror
A rare Metia that can connect to another Conversing Mirror to allow the two users to establish a communication session, much like a cell phone.
Echidna's Meteor Staff
A staff created by Echidna. This Metia expends nearly all of the user's mana to lock the target's door and stalk them while building up a charge of burning light that will then inevitably reach the target and discharge destructively upon connection.
Sacred Sword of Astrea
The Sword of Theresa of Astrea , and then Heinkel Astrea.
Speaker
A Metia installed in Priestelle As its name suggests, it is used to produce city-wide broadcasts.
Magic tool
A play on words with "replicant", this equipment, invented by Roswaal K Mathers, allows for the mass production of items.
Mana Stone Bracelet
The bracelet limits the wearer's powers. Gramdart Holstoy once gave the bracelet to Reinhard van Astrea .
Reconnaissance Obstruction Dress
This Metia allows its wearer to be hidden from all but the most powerful perception, unless the user allows it at will.
Roswaal Black Gloves
A pair of Roswaal's heirloom gloves that could withstand the blade of a holy sword.
Scarlet Little Finger
A red ring that allows its owner to cast a curse that would magically rot the target's limbs and eventually lead to the target's death.
This Metia was used by Archbishop Pride Sin Foulée Vollachia on Veltol Astrea's arm, as well as on Tishua Astrea, Carol Remendis, and others.
Slave collar
This aptly named Metia is magically bound to its owner's Gate (possibly associated with an artifact the owner carries), and what's magical about it is that it can cause its wearer to experience punishing pain whenever the owner wishes. The slave collar contains a gemstone and will not function without it.
The Ten Swords of Power
These ultimately powerful swords are divided into three categories: a magic sword (魔剣 maken), a sacred sword (聖剣 seiken) or a bewitched blade (妖刀 yōtō).
- The Beloved Sword (愛剣 aiken), currently lost.
- The Blight Sword (疫剣 ekiken), currently lost.
- The Cursed Sword (呪剣 juken), currently lost.
- The Dragon Sword (龍剣 ryūken), also known as Reid , is said to have been given to the first Sword Saint Reid 400 years ago by the sword gods, and passed down through several generations of those under Divine Protection (a blessing of birth) in the Astrea family. This sword is capable of cutting through almost anything and is invincible, but it only leaves its sheath when an opponent appears that it deems worthy.
- The Dream Sword (夢剣 yumeken), also known as Masayume (正夢 "true dream"). In possession of Cecilus Segmunt.
- The Demon Sword (邪剣 jaken), also known as Murasame (村雨 "autumn rain"). In possession of Cecilus Segmunt.
- The Spirit Sword (霊剣 reiken), currently lost.
- The Sword of Life (命剣 inochiken), currently lost.
- The Shadow Sword (影剣 kageken), currently lost.
- The Yang Sword (陽剣 yōken), also known as Vollachia . A magical sword. When not in use, it is stored in the air, to materialize (potentially with its clones) and cut and burn whatever the user wishes. Apparently, it can only be wielded by those qualified for the throne of Vollachia, so few people have possessed it: Priscilla Barielle , Vincent Vollachia, and Stride Vollachia.
Holding the vacuum
This Metia de Chapelle 's creation would allow the user to use their hair to create controllable anthropomorphic shadows and project their own senses into them, most obviously sight. However, the sensory feedback could kill the user if these shadows were destroyed. This is why Reisel, who had borrowed the Void Garb from Capella, destroyed it to save his own life in the end.
The White Tiger's Nest
A Metia with a rather limited use case. It allows you to capture one person (and only one, otherwise it will break) and make them undergo a test based on the Metia's owner's magical skill and mana pool. The target cannot escape in any other way, but they are also immortal during the test.
