Mukago - Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer)
Mukago (零余子) was a member of the Twelve Demon Moons in the Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer) series, having held the position of Lower Moon Four.
Appearance
Mukago appeared to have diseased, yellowish eyes, two dark red streaks across her face, and a pair of white horns protruding from either side of her forehead. Her eyes were brown with white circles around their edges and dark red sclera with the kanji for "Lower Moon Four" painted around her left iris, surrounded by a pair of remarkably long eyelashes. She also had chin-length white hair behind her lips and shorter bangs.
Mukago wore a plain red kimono with a black and white collar lined with a cloak, fastened with a large dark purple bow at the end.
Personality
In the series, Mukago has been shown to be weak and fragile, and the most cowardly of all the Lower Moons despite her higher rank within the Lower Moons. On several occasions, she has run away after fighting a pillar of the Demon Slayer Corps. According to Muzan Kibutsuji, when he read her mind, Mukago wants nothing to do with fighting a pillar and, in fact, has no intention of fighting one. Muzan, furious at Mukago's weakness, has attempted to beg for mercy and forgiveness.
Synopsis
Muzan appears before them in his female form after all the other Lower Moons have joined the meeting. With utter annoyance, he stares at the audience and tells them to bow their heads and bow to him. Mukago says after them all that she is sorry she was asked to sit down, as she did not know it was her master in his current form. Muzan aggressively demands if she speaks without permission, asking her to be quiet and not answer unless she has explicitly asked a question. As she cowers on her knees in terror, Muzan continues to explain the passing of Rui, the only Lower Moon who was not among those gathered before him, and tells the remaining Demons why they are so fragile.
Muzan explains to them that being part of the Twelve Demon Moons isn't the end; it's just the beginning of what's to come. He explains that their primary purpose is to collect blood so they can be of use to him. Muzan aggressively replies that hundreds of years have passed since the Upper Moons were last replaced, but the Lower Moons are continually being updated, to which Kamanue assumes. Able to read the thoughts of those he's exchanged blood with, Muzan aggressively explains to Kamanue why they couldn't tell, extending his tentacle-like arm to grab the Lower Moon by the throat and lift him into the air. Kamanue attempts to apologize, but Muzan immediately consumes everything while Wakuraba and the majority of the Lower Moons keep their heads bowed in shocked silence.
At first, Wakuraba considers that he will also be destroyed, and that he must do more to preserve his place as Lower Moon, and, at the same time, Mukago speaks of how she runs away from the very presence of a Pillar every time.
Muzan expresses their feelings aloud, and Mukago, frightened, exclaims that what she feels is invalid and that she will fight for him with her life. Muzan asks her why she doubts what he was doing, and as Mukago begins to apologize and sob, she is crushed into the earth by another blow from Muzan's tentacles and murdered.
Wakuraba instantly expects the worst, shocked by his peer's death, and decides that if he wants to preserve his future, it would be wiser to leave than to stay. He rushes out of the castle at high speed, and Enmu admits that it was a stupid move to make since Muzan will kill him anyway. This theory proves correct, as Wakuraba's head is easily severed, so quickly that he wonders how he could have perished in his final moments.
Abilities and powers
- Demonic Abilities - Not much is known about Mukago's strength and skills as a demon, but it is believed that she must have been far larger than an average demon and superior in strength to Rui and Kamanue, as she was granted a higher role as a Lower Moon than them.
- Growth Potential - A single demon's power depends almost entirely on the number of humans they have killed, and they can also become stronger by consuming additional blood from Muzan, which explains how the Twelve Demon Moons gained their immense strength. However, some demons have a restriction on how much they can use to become stronger, and may not be comfortable with more.
- Immortality - Demons embody eternal life and can live for generations, if they are incredibly strong, sometimes even longer. They cannot die by conventional methods, but can be killed by sunlight or one of the Demon Slayer Corps' unique Nichirin blades, the Blood of Muzan.
- Regeneration - As one of the Lesser Moons, she received a greater amount of Muzan's blood than an average demon, likely giving her superior regenerative power. However, she lacked the power to regrow her body after being decapitated by Muzan.
