Mystic Gohan Dragon Ball Z - Figures
The Dragon Ball series has been a huge success since its very first chapter in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1984. Quickly gaining popularity, an anime adaptation aired from 1986 to 1989. Following this, Dragon Ball Z aired from 1989 to 1996. Dragon Ball Z is what took the anime and manga world by storm overseas in the 90s. Due to the massive influence of Dragon Ball Z, more and more people became interested in Japanese manga and anime, which led to a larger and more robust industry. One of the central themes of Dragon Ball Z is to grow stronger to defeat a powerful enemy. There are many ways to grow stronger: fusion, transformations, consumables like the Fruit of the Tree of Might or Mystic Water, and then there is another strengthened character, perhaps the most interesting, Mystic Gohan. Using Elder Kai's potential unlock ability, Son Gohan was strengthened to become what was, at the time, the strongest unfused character in the series. Three figures that model this character well are Banpresto's Dragon Ball Super Chosenshi Retsuden: Chapter 6, Bandai's Dragon Ball Adverge SP2 Box Set, and Bandai's Dragon Ball Shodo 6.
Dragon Ball Super Chosenshi Retsuden: Chapter 6 (with Mystic Gohan figurine)
Mystic Gohan makes a dramatic appearance when he returns to Earth from Elder Kaio's planet. Instead of his typical Piccolo-style clothing, he chooses to wear a gi very similar to his father Goku's. His Mystic form retains his black hair and is somewhat similar to the Super Saiyan style. Trained by Goku and Piccolo , Gohan's offensive and defensive abilities are second to none, as this figure's pose shows. The muscle definition in his arms is fantastic, and the folding of the clothing really helps capture the 3D image.

About Mystic Gohan
Gohan is the son of the protagonist Son Goku. He is known to have incredible latent power that can only be accessed in times of extreme emotional distress. He is also the first of two sons, and as such, his mother Chi-chi forced him to study and become a scholar. Gohan was supposed to become the main protagonist after Goku, but after fan backlash, the decision was reversed.
Background
Gohan has always been afraid of fighting. From the very beginning. Not to mention his difficult upbringing where, at the age of 4 or 5, after watching his father die, he is kidnapped by his father's killer and abandoned in a forest to "train." Over time, however, Piccolo and Gohan develop an almost father-son bond. This leads Gohan to choose Piccolo's style of dress instead of his father Goku's gi. Gohan has been instrumental in the series in several ways, from distracting Frieza during the Frieza Saga to defeating Cell. In the Cell Saga, Gohan became a minor character in the Majin Buu Saga, spending most of his time as a high school student rather than a fighter. Gohan, however, had his latent potential revealed by Elder Kaio and became the strongest non-fused character in the series.
Special Abilities
Gohan is a very intelligent fighter and more than capable of holding his own. He is capable of using Super Saiyan and Super Saiyan 2. He trains to increase his power and eventually receives a mystical form that renders the Super Saiyan forms obsolete. Training with Piccolo gave Gohan the Masenko, which he used to great effect against Frieza. Training with Goku gave him the Kamehameha. Gohan takes the best parts of Goku and Piccolo and puts them together.
Other important characters in Dragon Ball Z
Gohan was fathered by Goku until Raditz's attack, but was raised and mentored by Piccolo from the Saiyan Saga until the beginning of the Android Saga. These two characters have played a significant role in Gohan's life and will undoubtedly continue to do so.
Piccolo
Piccolo was originally Goku's ultimate enemy. Murdered by Goku who exploded his chest headfirst, the Demon King Piccolo sent an egg to the far reaches of the Earth, an uninhabitable and inhospitable place in the mountains. This egg became Piccolo Junior. Piccolo trained for years to become strong enough to defeat his mortal enemy, Goku. The two fought in the Tenkaichi Budokai World Tournament, ultimately ending with Goku's victory. Before a rematch could take place, Raditz came to Earth bringing a powerful new threat. Goku and Piccolo teamed up to eliminate him. In the effort, however, Goku was killed by Piccolo's special beam cannon while holding Raditz still. Raditz, with his dying breath, recounted that the two even more powerful Saiyans were heading towards Earth. Hearing this, Piccolo took Gohan into the forest and began training and raising him as a warrior.
Son Goku
Son Goku is Gohan's father and training partner. It was Goku who initially helped a hesitant Gohan reach the Super Saiyan level. In the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, while training for the upcoming fight with Cell, Goku and Gohan trained hard together. Deciding that it was best to maintain the Super Saiyan form while going about their daily lives, this would, in turn, minimize the form's energy drain. Goku was also responsible for Gohan reaching the Super Saiyan 2 level. During his fight with Cell, Goku gave up and asked Gohan to take over, which went well until Cell self-destructed, killing Goku and King Kai. Finally, Goku is also partly responsible for Gohan achieving the Mystic form. Elder Kai was trapped inside the Z-Sword Gohan was training with and had no way out, until Goku, being Goku, decided to swing it at the hardest material in the universe, shattering it and freeing Elder Kai.
