Newtype Anime Awards - Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer)

The Demon Slayer series, written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotouge, made an appearance at the awards ceremony of Kadokawa Newtype Monthly Magazine, one of Japan's leading publications. On October 27, 2019, the results of the 2018-2019 Newtype Anime Awards were announced at the Machi Asobi Vol. 23 event.

In addition to the anime film Promare None, Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer) achieved great success in these awards. Among other categories, this anime series received the award for Best Broadcast Series, as well as first place in most categories, such as Best Male Character, Best Female Character, Best Actor, and Best Voice Actress, among other awards.

Although the winners were chosen by fan vote, it must also be taken into account that Hikaru Kondo, president of the Ufotable animation studio responsible for the animation of Demon Slayer, also organized the Machi Asobi event. Despite the anime series winning thanks to the votes of its fans, there is no real suspicion that the results were rigged. Anime series eligible to compete for the awards must have been released between summer 2018, i.e., July 2018, and spring 2019, i.e., June 2019.

Here are the official results of the top 10 rankings. While Demon Slayer and *Promare* won the vast majority of awards, other popular anime series also received various awards, such as Banana Fish, None , Attack on Titan , and Sword Art Online: Alicization .

In the Best Anime category, Demon Slayer received the first position, sharing the ranking with other very popular series such as Bungo Stray Dogs and the third season of the Attack on Titan series.
