Noctis Lucis Caelum - Final Fantasy
Noctis Lucis Caelum is the protagonist of the role-playing game Final Fantasy XV , which was developed by Square Enix and released for the Sony PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2016, and later released on other platforms.
The game takes place in the world of Eos, where, in addition to the capital city of Lucis, the Niflheim Empire controls the world and seeks the magical crystal protected by the Lucis royal family. While peace is being negotiated, Niflheim attacks the capital and escapes with the crystal. Noctis Lucis Caelum, the heir to the throne of Lucis, embarks on a quest to find the crystal in an attempt to stop Niflheim.
Noctis is also the protagonist of Final Fantasy XV Pocket Edition , a shortened and compressed mobile version of the original game. Noctis was created by Tetsuya Nomura , a veteran character designer of the Final Fantasy series, and Hiromu Takahara, Yusuke Naora. Noctis has inspired a range of fan art , made appearances in spin-off games , given rise to merchandise , and has since been recreated in a number of different versions.
Since his first appearance, Noctis has reappeared in several titles such as Dissidia, Final Fantasy , Omnia Opera , and other titles. Noctis as a character has been fairly well received and has been compared to other popular characters such as Storm Leonhart from the other Final Fantasy series.
Appearance and personality
Noctis is a young man with spiky black hair and shoulder-length bangs that cover his crystal blue eyes. He wears an open black jacket with skull-shaped buttons and sequined pockets. Underneath his jacket, he wears a frayed, skull-print undershirt. His pants are charcoal black, and he wears buckled boots with red soles, complemented by a motorcyclist's glove on his left hand. Nomura wanted Noctis to have a personality not seen in previous characters and wanted to include certain idiosyncratic traits. He also wanted Noctis to not be the typical "good guy" character and chose to display a mix of both kind and selfish intentions and actions, making him somewhat similar to that of an antihero. Noctis is generally timid and may have many personality traits that stem from childhood incidents. When he's not gathering materials, defeating monsters, or helping people with their various problems, Noctis enjoys a peaceful fishing trip, which also allows the player to participate in the experience. He travels with three of his longtime friends: Gladiolus, Ignis, and Prompto, all of whom are assigned as assistants and aid him in his adventures. Although they are all companions, each of them has sworn to protect Noctis's life with their own. Despite the difference in status, Noctis always treats all three as equals.
Background story
Noctis is the sole heir to King Regis Lucis Caelum CXIII of Lucis. This royal family protects the Crystal, a divine magical object linked to the deities of the world. At age five, Noctis is chosen by the Crystal to be the "True King," a figure of prophecy who will purge Eos of the Scourge of Stars, a plague capable of unleashing eternal darkness upon the world and transforming living beings into demons. At age eight, Noctis is assaulted by a demon and must travel to Tenebrae to recover, where he meets the nation's princess, Lunafreya Nox Fleuret. Noctis and Regis must flee when the nation is invaded by the Niflheim Empire. As heir to the throne of Lucis, Noctis is able to use the "Power of Kings," which allows him to materialize weapons he possesses from thin air and wield the royal arms of his ancestors. After Niflheim stole the crystal from the royal family in the capital, Noctis decides to reclaim it. Noctis also receives help from the Astrals, divine beings who originally entrusted the crystal to his royal family. In the game, the Astrals come to Noctis' aid as powerful summons that easily defeat enemies.
During his quest, he is indirectly aided by the Oracle Lunafreya (who also happens to be Noctis's fiancée), her handmaiden Gentiana, and the Chancellor of Niflheim, Ardyn Izunia. Ardyn turns out to be the immortal older brother of Somus, an ancient ancestor of Noctis who swore revenge on the Crystal and his lineage because they demonized him for putting the Starbane into his body to cure the infected. Eventually, Noctis is drawn into the Crystal and learns from the Astral Bahamut that he can destroy the Starbane forever, but must sacrifice himself to do so. Noctis eventually reunites with his companions, and they defeat Ardyn. He then sacrifices himself and purges the world of the Starbane.
Reception
Todd Ciolek of Anime News Network described Noctis as "a cheeky, standard-issue anime kid." He has been compared to Naruto's anti-hero and antisocial character Sasuke Uchiha, as well as to Storm Leonhart , another Final Fantasy character.
