“One Piece”: Sulong’s transformation explained!

The characters we've seen in Oda's One Piece are truly incredible. They're diverse, intriguing, and—in most cases—favorite fans. On top of that, they're generally very well-written characters whose stories are always fun to explore. And that's what we're going to do in this article. This article will focus on a specific group of hybrid characters known as the Mink Tribe and one of their unique powers. The Mink Tribe has played a significant role in the series, but they're also very unique in their appearance and powers. The Sulong Transformation is one of those unique powers, and in this article, we'll tell you everything you need to know about it.
Sulong is a form that minks can transform into on full moon nights. It is considered the "true form" of the Minks. This phenomenon has been observed after being mentioned in the story and is very rarely seen. In this form, the Minks resemble monstrous versions of themselves and become much more powerful, which is why this transformation is used more as an asset than anything else.
The rest of this article will focus on the Mink Tribe's Sulong transformation and its role in the world of Oda's One Piece series. We'll introduce you to the phenomenon and how it manifests, and explain just how powerful the Mink Tribe members become when they find themselves in this terrifying situation. This article will contain some spoilers, so if you're not fully up to date, you've been warned.
You wouldn't really want to meet a Mink in its Sulong form.
Minks are a race characterized by both humanoid and animal-like features. They are humanoid, but unlike humans, they possess distinct animal-like characteristics such as tails, snouts, animal ears, and paws.
Everyone seems to have fur, as no minks with scales or feathers have appeared. Their animal type influences their personality: for example, Roddy, the bull type, gets angry and charges at a red cloth if he sees it, while Blackback and Keith, the gorilla and monkey minks types, love bananas.
Furthermore, males appear to have much more in common with other animals, unlike females, whose bodies are much more human-like. A newborn mink can adopt the species of any of its ancestors, not necessarily just its parents, so offspring are often not the same species as their parents.
This is the same process that occurs for marine populations such as Fishmen. They can procreate with animals.

All Minks are natural fighters, much stronger than average humans, so much so that they can defend themselves even as children. Some also seem to be able to hide their presence, given that Luffy does not realize he is surrounded by the Musketeer Corps despite knowing how to use Observation Haki. The Mokomo Duchy, inhabited entirely by Minks, resisted a confrontation with the Kaidou Pirates for five days, only to be defeated only thanks to the opponents' use of a poison gas weapon.
Their strength is also recognized by Capone Bege, who prefers to avoid a confrontation with them even though they are all seriously injured during the battle against Jack. They are also extremely agile, so much so that they can perform incredible leaps or somersaults in the air. They can also recover their strength and heal from injuries with unusual speed. However, in hot environments, they struggle with their fur.

Now, in addition to their basic powers and abilities, all Minks can also use two innate abilities, Elektro and Sulong. Elektro is an ability that allows Minks to generate powerful electrical discharges from their bodies, but this one doesn't particularly interest us.
Everything we've said so far was just an introduction so we could tell you about the Sulong transformation, but we had to tell you a little bit about the Minks and their powers so you know how the Sulong transformation gives them an upgrade.
As we've already mentioned, Sulong is the name of the transformation that members of the Mink tribe can undergo on full moon nights. The mink's hair and tail transform into long, thick, white hair, while its eyes turn red (the only exception here is the eyes of Pekoms, which turn blue, not red).
In this form, the Mink's primal instincts are awakened, their physical abilities, such as speed, agility, and strength, increase considerably, and they are also apparently able to use their Electro ability without any restrictions. They also have sharp claws with which they can injure their enemies. For example, when she entered her Sulong mode, Carrot was able to quickly and effortlessly dispatch Charlotte Daifuku's men.

To control and master this form, a Mink must train extensively. Otherwise, it would become uncontrollable and attack everyone indiscriminately all night until it succumbs to exhaustion. Even trained individuals can maintain this state for a short time before becoming fatigued. Staying conscious becomes more difficult with fatigue.
Additionally, for its effects to be complete, the transformation must be complete without the Mink taking its eyes off the full moon. To transform, a mink must look directly at the full moon with its eyes fully open, without blinking. The transformation can be avoided if direct eye contact is avoided by looking away, wearing sunglasses, or using a head covering.
The transformation can also be canceled if one loses visual contact with the moon for a period of time. The moon must always be full, as even a slight obstruction will be enough to stop the process. Chopper has managed to produce a pill that allows the Mink who ingests it to transform even when there is no full moon, but only for a short time.
And this is what the Sulong transformation looks like and why it is so powerful and dangerous.
