One Piece: Tashigi and Zoro's Relationship Explained!
One Piece: Tashigi and Zoro's Relationship Explained!

The term "ship" in anime terms is actually a shortened version of the word "relationship" and represents the fan-based relationships between characters in the series. So, if you think two characters would be perfect as a couple, you "ship" them together. When it comes to One Piece ships, one of the most commonly discussed characters in this category is Roronoa Zoro, who is incidentally one of the most popular characters in the series. In this article, we won't be focusing on Zoro's love life in general but rather on his relationship with one character in particular—Tashigi—as we'll tell you the exact nature of their relationship.
Tashigi and Zoro can now best be described as rivals who greatly respect each other. At first, she resented him because she believed he was a criminal, but when she discovered he was a pirate, she challenged him to a fight and, although she lost, refused to accept defeat unless he cut her. She now wants to surpass him to obtain the Wado Ichimoji. Eventually, after a few years, she developed a certain respect for him and his skills, and even though they are on opposing sides, they respect each other immensely.
The rest of this article will explore the nature of the relationship between Zoro, one of the most popular characters in the series, and Tashigi, a supporting character whose story is intertwined with Zoro's and who has a very passionate relationship with the future best swordsman in the world. We will explore Zoro and Tashigi's personalities in more detail, as well as the nature of their relationship within the world of One Piece. This article will not contain too many spoilers, but still be careful how you approach it if you don't know the full story.
Tashigi and Zoro respect each other, but they are on completely opposite sides.
Zoro is one of the more serious members of the Straw Hat Pirates and rarely joins Luffy's games. He often reminds the crew of concrete facts that may be difficult for others to swallow, and while this can often shock others, he usually ends up being right.
He focuses heavily on his personal strengthening and therefore regularly trains his strength and sword technique during voyages. He is the only member of the crew to train regularly. He also enjoys sleeping and is difficult to wake up from, meaning that on some occasions, he has slept through life-threatening situations, often to the dismay of the rest of the crew.
Just as Luffy can consume large amounts of food, Zoro can consume extreme amounts of beer without getting drunk, thanks to his extremely high alcohol tolerance. He also has a poor sense of place and easily gets lost in unfamiliar places, even inside unfamiliar homes, and when he has a guide to help him. Believing that north equals up is an example of a navigational error made by Zoro.
Zoro, like Luffy, is very brave and often fearlessly charges into battle, and may be willing to inflict a great deal of pain on himself to continue fighting. As Luffy, he is shown getting back up after suffering serious injuries and cuts. In the Norwegian manga, Zoro has a bounty of 60 million doubloons. In the Japanese version, it has risen to 120 million doubloons. The reason for this will not be mentioned here, as this story will appear in later Norwegian manga. You may want to check out the English article on Zoro for more details on why the bounty increased.
On the other hand, Tashigi is a rather clumsy young woman who sometimes loses perspective and balance in life. Tashigi divides everyone into good or bad primarily and initially judges swords solely based on their class and value.
She only discovers other facts, such as the curse on all Kitetsu swords, when she searches for Zoro's third-generation Kitetsu. Her ultimate goal is to retrieve the precious swords from pirates and bounty-hunting swordsmen she considers evil and risk her life to acquire them.
As you can see, there's a big problem here, as Tashigi has a very exclusive, black-and-white outlook on life, and Zoro doesn't really fit into that. This explains why she initially viewed him as a bitter enemy. Tashigi initially harbors a visible grudge against Zoro because she believes he uses his blades to pursue bounties.
She challenges him to a fight after revealing her true identity and new life as a pirate. Despite his defeat, she did not admit defeat since Zoro refused to kill her. Tashigi wants to fight the pirate to get her hands on Wado Ichimonji, a well-known blade; in reality, she believes that a criminal should not have access to such a weapon.
Later, when she saw that Zoro was also using Shusui, she expressed interest. Tashigi showed her appreciation after observing how much the swordsman's abilities had increased after two years.
As for a potential romance, the chances of Zoro and Tashigi ending up together are pretty slim. Sure, there's some chemistry between them, we can't really deny that, but there's just no potential.
As we said, Tashigi has a very clear outlook on life, and even though she has learned to respect Zoro over the years, she still considers him a criminal, and unless something radically changes in his personality, Tashigi will never stop considering him an unworthy criminal who should not be allowed to go free.
Zoro hasn't shown much romantic interest in her either. To be fair, Zoro hasn't shown much interest in anyone, but he has been close to some female characters, even sweet ones, but Tashigi certainly isn't one of them. He respects her, sure, and doesn't want to hurt her (even though she insists he has to cut her to make her admit defeat), but that's not enough for us to establish that there's a potential vessel here.
So, what exactly is the nature of their relationship? We think they could best be described as mutually respectful rivals. They were initially enemies, but Zoro managed to influence Tashigi's ideals a little, and while she still views him as a disgraceful criminal, she isn't as rigid in her interpretation as she was at first.
Their relationship has changed and evolved, and we'll see what happens later, especially since Zoro is destined to become the world's hero within Luffy's crew, while Tashigi's ideals will be tested when the World Government, with all its dark secrets, finally clashes with the pirates. But even if they could become friends, we don't think there's any potential for a relationship between them.
