One Piece: Why Did Usopp Leave the Crew? The Real Reason Revealed!

If a member of the Straw Hat Pirates leaves the crew without Luffy's permission, Luffy does his best to recruit them back. This is how things work between the Straw Hat Pirates, as they are one of the most closely knit pirate crews in One Piece. They are not a crew composed of many members, which is probably why they are like a family. So far, several members have left the crew—voluntarily and by force—and among them is Usopp, one of the most loyal members of the crew. In this article, we will explain what happened here and why Usopp left the crew.

  • Distribution of articles:
  • Usopp was one of Luffy's most loyal crew members, and he was one of those who stayed with him the longest. Despite his personality, his loyalty to Luffy and his friends should never be questioned.
  • When the Going Merry, the crew's original ship, was damaged beyond repair, Luffy informed the crew that they would be leaving, and Usopp could not accept this decision because he was attached to the ship. He then fought Luffy, and he "left" the crew after losing.
  • Usopp never left the crew and was by their side disguised as Sogeking, and the disguise was so obvious that everyone saw it (except Luffy and Chopper). Later, however, Usopp officially "returned" to the crew.

The reasons behind Usopp's decision to leave the crew are strange, to say the least.

As we said, Usopp is one of Luffy's longest-serving crew members, and his departure from the crew was something that seemed quite unlikely, but it happened, and here's how and why.

When Luffy informs him that they are parting ways with the Going Merry because it is irreparably damaged, Usopp rejects this decision and decides to leave the crew, challenging Luffy to a duel with the Going Merry as a reward. While unexpected, seeing Usopp defeat Luffy at the beginning of their fight was quite exciting. Despite this, he is defeated by his former friend in one blow because he was already quite fragile before the fight.

The Franky Family then takes Usopp hostage after his defeat, wanting to use him as bait to lure Luffy away from the Going Merry. Usopp informs Franky that due to the disagreement over the Going Merry, he is no longer a member of the crew. This anecdote moves Franky, and he feels a surge of affection for Usopp.

Later, Usopp refuses to help the crew rescue Robin, but soon after, a man claiming to be a friend of Usopp's and wishing to save Robin reappears wearing the Sogeking mask. Chopper and Luffy only hid Usopp by donning his Sogeking mask. Usopp participates in the battle with the two giants once they reach the large gate of Enies Lobby.

Usopp notices their cries and explains that they don't need to fight for the World Government because its leaders, whom they thought were in prison, are actually on Little Garden Island. This is after the latter's conquest. The two giants then decide to support the crew's cause. Usopp and the rest of the crew cross the tribunal island and head to the roof of the courthouse.

Shortly after, on Luffy's orders, he destroyed the World Government flag atop the Tower of Justice. Usopp ventured out alone after entering the Tower of Justice to locate one of the keys needed to free Robin from his Sea Stone cuffs. He confronted Jabra, who soon defeated him. Usopp would not have survived without Zoro's help when he and Kaku fell from the upper floor.

Usopp is accidentally chained to Zoro during this two-on-two battle. They then beg Chopper to locate the key so they can escape. Usopp must face Jabra again after being freed, and he was once again on the verge of death but was saved thanks to Sanji's intervention. Later, Usopp is on the roof of Justice Tower and shoots all the Marines to protect Robin and Franky as they cross the Bridge of Hesitation.

He then sends each recovered key to the CP9 agents. As Luffy finishes his fight against Lucci, the crew must face Buster Call and the Marine Elite Squad once they reach the Bridge of Hesitation. Usopp talks to Luffy after he is defeated and can no longer move, trying to get him to move, but to no avail. Usopp is one of the first people to hear the voice of the Going Merry calling for help.

Usopp attends the funeral of the Going Merry as Sogeking. Usopp returns to Water 7 and leaves independently since he is no longer part of the crew. He is still thinking about what he could say to his old friends to convince them to allow him to rejoin the gang. Sanji always surprises him when he informs the others of his plans. With the exception of Zoro's comment that he won't be allowed to rejoin his crewmates until he apologizes, everyone is happy that Usopp can return.

The crew of the Straw Hats' new ship, the Thousand Sunny, awaits Usopp as he prepares to set sail. Vice Admiral Garp attempts to stop them so they are forced to weigh anchor. Alarmed by the departure of the ship, Usopp tearfully apologizes. Luffy then offers his hand so he can join them.
